Has anyone seen or heard of this? This week I've noticed that a group of rebels (my school doesn't have that many, thankfully, so the bad apples stand out pretty well) were all in their full winter uniforms with ties and waistcoats. The rest of our students are still in summer uniforms. A few of them who had tinted their hair brown during the summer were forced to dye it jet black at the start of the school term, and I wonder if this is their response and way of trying to stand out and be different?

I was wondering the same thing when that happened yesterday. I also noticed that a lot of the girls are wearing their sweaters...but that may just be because the "aircon" is in full-effect these days. I've seen some rather strange combinations, though--like a track suit top with their brown skirts, or their dress tops with their track shorts...if the only way to rebel is to look silly, then I feel pretty sorry for them!

I've seen some of my kids wearing their winter uniforms, but they're not the trendy/"popular" types of students.

I will say...I went to a school with uniforms from 1-12th grade, and I'll admit that we did some pretty stupid stuff to try to look different. There was a "cool way" and an "uncool way" to tuck your shirt in, and we'd beat our new pants for a few hours to make sure they looked worn in and not "geeky new."

I went to a Christian Brothers' school, uniform with blazer and tie etc, mandatory.

We used to wear white socks, that was against the uniform code. And football scarves wrapped around our waists, under our shirts. They were also banned as 'symbols of sectarian strife'.

Doc martin boots, higher than 4 holes I think, were also on the sh#t list. That was 20 years ago though. Jesus, I remember when pastel coloured sweaters and cardigans made an appearance. Anyone remember 20 pleated trousers, like MC Hammer. Hahahaha!
