You're living overseas and someone back home, most often moms, do a lot to make life here more pleasant...like send care packages, collect and forward your mail...
Don't forget to call your mom (or whoever) and thank her.
I thought of this because today is my birthday and I finally opened the box my mom sent two weeks ago and that I've been fighting the cats to keep from opening early. Inside was a big bag of Tootsie Rolls and 2 great t-shirts, one of which I'll wear to dinner tonight with my students from last semester who are coming back. FREE FOOD
(I really disappointed in having to share my birthday with John McCain of all people, but I'm in a good mood, so Happy Bday, John.) |

I call my mom (and dad) every morning via Skype (I'm talking with them as I type). My mom has my power of attorney and takes care of a lot of my business back home. As both of my folks are getting up there in years (80s), though, I try to not ask too much. |

Your right ya-ta boy, moms are great!! I just got my care package of new fitted sheets (pre-washed) b/c she knows I have to spend a day to let dry. I also recieved black beans, hand sanitizer, fajita and taco seasoning, dried coffee creamer and a bunch of other yummy treats. It was so funny b/c all the Korean teachers were like, wow. I was explaining how American sheets are fitted and how the pillow cases are light in weight and they were staring at my taco set and the garlic powder and the black beans, it was funny!! |

Once a week (by phone or VOIP) is the standard frequency of calls home.
Although i know someone who only calls home once a Month!....that's too long in my opinion. Depends on the closeness/independence of your family i suppose. |

I love my mom and dad. She sends me care packages with clothes and things that I need. She helps me get documents that I need and of course she is always good to talk to for advice. Just because I am living in Korea, there isn't any need to be distant from my parents and family. |

They were probably staring at the garlic, like sending ice cubes to Iceland.
EDIT: It was my grandmothers 90th on the 28th of August too.
Mum sends me treats and knitting for our daughter, cam chat several times a week by MSN. Mums rock. |

This sounds familiar. Last year, my mom sent me some slippers and a set of chopsticks. This year she sent me a map of Korea. I'm still not sure if she's sending me these things as a joke or not. |

Thats VERY WEIRD!
Geezz.... from your posts I almost believed it was your 40th 39th birthday....
Hmmm.. Uni finshed at 22 + your 15 years teaching here = 37... plus those couple of years inbetween... = 40 |
