rock and roll died an untidy and embarrassing death in the early 70s.

the only bands that survived the 70s as far as rock and roll goes are the ramones and black flag. you can't argue with that.

2 bands playing rock and roll because they wanted to rock and roll.

every other band (and some of them were good) missed the mark terribly.

i would argue that no band has truly rocked since some time in the 80s, but i have trouble putting my finger on which one, where, when and why. it's a tough question.

You might want to add "The New York Dolls" to that list.

i was talking about bands who survived the 70s. the nyd broke up in 1977.

There's back together minus Johnny Thunders.

It's all pretty subjective.

AC/DC was releasing some pretty rocking albums in the 80s and definitely subscribing to the rock n roll lifestyle. The late 80s and early 90s had Fugazi and Kyuss. The late 90s seem pretty barren, stupid boy bands. The 00s have had some great acts, Lightning Bolt comes to mind.

quick buck reunions don't count. we're talking about bands in their heyday, not 50 year old dudes who try to prove they still have a wild side.

I still think no ones outdone The Sex Pistols. As far as pissing people off.
