When it happened some Koreans did their usual "freak out about everything" and they burned some American flags, but then a couple kyopos (yeah, they can actually defend the USA when they feel like it) actually defended Colbert, so the rage subsided. |

I think some non-Americans don't get American humor and they don't go by the American idea that bad press is still good press. If an American celebrity got a parody made about him, he would laugh it off to prevent people from saying he's uptight or has no sense of humor. Even then, I think referring to Rain as "Kid Jong Il" isn't exactly a compliment to Rain or the country he represents, and it makes Colbert in the role of a newscaster who should know about world politics seem like an idiot. |

Apparently you don't know/don't get Colbert's persona on his show. |

Maybe I don't since I don't watch American TV and I don't think Koreans do either. |

this has very little to do with colbert, but a quick scan through the channels on your television here should convince anyone that koreans do in fact watch american television. |

I meant they might not understand Colbert's persona. |

The Dance Revolution dance-off was fun.
Korean netizens are the worst in the world. And for some reason people, celebs in particular seem to be taking whatever they have to say quite seriously.
Can't recall the name of the poor little Korean singer who offed herself early this year or late last year after the internet "wolf pack" (Colbert quote) inundated her with nasty comments and emails.
Anyway, Colbert rocks! Not quite as good as Stewart but getting there! |

I showed all my classes the dance off video as well as Colbert's parody and they thought it was REALLY funny. Some demanded to see it twice. |

Yeah, but they don't watch American comedies. The only thing that resembles an American comedy I've seen on tv here is Monk, and that's pretty tame. |

30 rock, how i met your mother, the office, that '70s show, friends nearly constantly . . . need i go on? i do agree that the humor involved with colbert and virtually any piece of american or even non-korean humor is lost on most koreans, but i find it a bit unrealistic to argue that koreans aren't expose to this brand of programming. |
