I went to the Dr. yesterday and I told him I can't sleep. He gave me a prescription. I had no idea what it was until I looked at the pill. The word xanax was written on it. I think 20 pills of .5 mg xanax for $3.70 is something that would be a big hit in America, but I digress.
I actually had heard of people abusing it in America because I saw on a recent episode of "Weeds". One of the characters got hers in Mexico because it was hard to get and expensive in America. George Bush's niece also got busted for writing her own prescription for it a few years ago.....That's all I knew about it. I always thought it was an antipychotic.
I took one pill last night and barely made it up to bed, where I slept for 13 hours! Then I realized that this could be a bad drug for my drug test which I was supposed to take today. I looked online and found that one pill stays in your urine for 7-10 days and it is a "Benzodiazepine" which is one of the 6 English words on my last (year's) medical test form!! One word was "AIDS", one was "opiates", one was "amphetamines", and then the other drugs they test.
SO is a Doctor's note going to make a positive test result OK or do I need to wait 7 days and drink only green tea? I am really running out of time and am pretty upset over this, since the results take 10 business days to get back and my time in the country on this visa is about up...I only have 4 more weeks left....a new visa takes a while to process....this is a bad situation.
If only ttompatz was reading this.... |

Sorry, but I truly don't have an answer for you.
I don't know if a note from a Korean doctor will mitigate a positive result on the test or if they (immigration) will wait and make you re-test or just not accept it period (deny your ARC) as well as have the positive result in your file (regardless of the outcome).
Personally, I would wait the 10 days, and drink lots of tea. This isn't Kansas.

Thanks for that speedy reply. I'm on my second pot of tea now....I am worried about that "in my file" factor too now....never thought of that until you mentioned it.

Call the doctor who prescribed the medication to you and ask him if it will show up. Maybe it will...maybe it won't. You don't know till you ask. I wouldn't worry that much until you determine this. I am sure if it becomes a problem the doctor could make some calls for you to immigration to explain your situation. I was in a similar situation facing a false positive for something on the health check and a Korean doctor told me the would do a second test to confirm any positive result they got as false positives can be caused by several things. I would start with making friends with your doctor and asking some questions. |

It is one of the 5 drugs they test for......it will show up. And it stays in urine for 7-10 days. I checked this all out online and I read my own Korean medical test from last year. It had this drug class spelled out in English!!!
The Doctor asked me what religion I was after he asked me my symptoms. Then he pulled out his bible and began reading the highlighted passage that said that no one can go to G-d without going through Jesus 1st.....He told me he believes Jesus is the only true G-d and "I want you to believe this too." I guess "Jewish" was the wrong answer.
This dude's answer is not something I'd trust, nor is it going to refute online research. BOTTOM LINE: They DO test for it, it & DOES show up. I know this. Do I get a pass for wakcadoo's Dr.'s note is the only question left. |

Yeh, I was just thinking of my post. Sorry, just woke up. You are not dealing with a false positive. You actually took a drug they test for. I would say you are in a bad place. Doesn't really matter how it got in your system. It did. You may be teaching somewhere else next year if you take that test anytime soon.
Now you got two options. Wait and hope it passes out of your system before you take the test. Or, wait and then find a way to take a test anonymously to make sure it is out of your system before taking the test to get your visa.
In my situation, I did the second of the two in order to be safe and came out alright...but hell I have always been kinda lucky
Or, you can go with trying to get the crazy doctor to get you out of this mess. Honestly though, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I have to try to explain why I tested positive for something immigration is testing for. I haven't seen any posts on here about sympathy from immigration for testing positive for anything. |

Can you try to get E-1 Visa? Schools are more and more requesting E-1 Visas in order to make getting a teacher more easy. I just got an E-1 in Japan and there were a bunch of EFL teachers from Korea whose schools were changing their E-2 to E-1 in order to make it easy for them to stay. |

I wouldn't worry about Xanax showing up. If you easily got it in Korea, then a drug test here shouldn't be of concern. If it does come up, simply say that a Korean doctor gave it to you.
Really don't worry. |

What's an E1? I don't think that's an option here. I have never heard of it and I have had a lot of conversations with a lot of recruiters and schools.
As far as not worrying because I'm already here....I fail to see that logic. I know they test for it. I know it is a "bad drug" or they wouldn't be looking for it....I know it shows up....Again....has anyone gotten off the hook with a Doctors' explanation? They won't just overlook it if I wave a bottle of pills in their face before I go pee pee. |

The logic is that a Korean doctor will not prescribe medication that is illegal to use in this country. |

Well that is illogical.
All benzo drugs are legal. Many many opiates are legal. Many many amphetamines are legal. All these things are tested for. All these things will show up. Will they show up only if you take a lot? I don't know. There are levels that they test for.....I just have no idea what they are.
Is there an option for prescription drugs can be overlooked? I don't know. |

You've got lots of time. I dont know where you got the "10 business days" info but that is incorrect. Shop around. Hospitals in my area offer same-day results if you test in the morning, otherwise the next day.
Relax. Wait 10 days. Take the test. You'll be fine. |

Anti-depressants are really bad drugs and are given to too many patients. Wtf is a doctor giving you that for a sleeping problem.
Why would you take such a strong pill- are you depressed?
Even if you are depressed only take things like Xanax as a last resort.
Xanax does does damage to the frontal lobe of your brain.
I get so angry when I see so many stupid people who take anti-depressants.
Make some changes in your diet and lifestyle.
Popping pills is just a waste of a human life. They help you to fit into society while turning you into a zombie. |

I think you have to ask yourself why they are testing for these legal prescription medications as well. Koreans don't exactly have the best view of people who suffer from mental illness (even though it is as common here as anywhere). Are they using these tests to screen out people who may have drug problems or people who may have mental health problems? I say you would not be looked upon favorably in either case in Korea. Going to immigration with a bottle of pills and trying to explain why you need them is not the best option nor the brightest. |
