Here's a link to both video and text of Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.
It's interactive so you can jump to different parts of the speech which is 42 min long; it will take some time to download so it's best to hit pause and let it load completely to avoid interruptions.
the ny times usually requires registration for stories like this but it's not hard to do and certainly worth it.

for non-Americans - yes, this is very historic - no person of color has ever been nominated by a major political party for the presidency of the U.S. before. From this point forward, a lot of "firsts" will be coming.

This is a good link, and thanks for it. I think I might use it as a teaching aid for some of my adult students. Very handy, having the text scroll by and being able to go forward or back ... |

you are quite welcome - funny how it didn't show up in google this morning or in google news headlines - !
then I remembered the NYTimes almost always publishes entire speeches when relevant - or other special documents -
certainly it can be used as a teaching tool. I took a polysci class once upon the day - speeches by black americans - analyzing political speeches for rhetoric and persuasion is a task but very interesting!
*on another note*
if you watch the speech (or read it)
Obama leans towards nuclear and the so-called "clean coal" as part of his energy plan - which is a disappointment - was hoping he'd have better advisors - but he did mention funding 150 billion into alternative energies including wind and solar so hopefully we can see the elect car come back.
all in all tho it was quite good and yes, inspiring. he's definitely an animated speaker much like Clinton is. |
