I do. Every time. In front of the students. As does my co teacher. It's horrible. Are we undermining the students' confidence in their shitty English curriculum, or just letting them know we know it's dumb, so let's just get through it so we can play a game.

Damn EPIK. Do you think I should tell someone that there is no co-teacher? Will anything be done?

Well, if you have teaching experience, it can be a benefit not having the teacher there.

Or, you can ust have the kids sit in their desks and write in big capital letters on the blackboard

Elementary, Middle, high school? Which curriculum you talking about?

I like the Elementary curriculum. It keeps it simple. Since it is so simple, there is a LOT of room to be creative.

I think its much better than a ESL textbook where it is so structured that the routine never changes.

I mock the whole military style way of doing things. When the kids come to attention and bow I do a goofy British style salute. Whenever I have to attend an opening ceromony I do everything really exaggerated. I still remember all the drill from cadets. The Koreans don't pick up on the obvious sarcasm.

classroom management aint such a problem....i deal with the kids pretty well and havnt had to send any out or deal with them individually in any way.

the co-teaching thing cant happen either as i have been given more english classes than co-teachers exist. basically meaning that when i have a class there is no coteacher available to be in there with me anyway.

i dont mind - the kids are more responsive and chatty without their korean teachers in the room.

Elementary English curriculum? I don't know what that is as it does not exist in English teaching where I'm at. I'm given full freedom to teach and do as I see fit. While it's good to have freedom, this means I have to reinvent the wheel on what to teach and how to teach it. It's easy with 3rd and 4th grade, but 5th and 6th is a bit more challenging especially since their class size is twice as large.

I'm in a high school. First day, I've already seen two beatings. Hmmm... I love how no laws are enforced in Korea. You can basically do whatever the hell you want, except throw all trash in the same bag, throw cigarette butts on the ground, wear your shoes indoors, etc. This society is very oxymoronic. Couples can't live together on Jeju island if they're not married, yet they have *beep* houses and hostess bars everywhere, and advertisements for call-girls. Don't get me wrong, I love it here so far. The people are all generally nice. But, I just can't seem to get a grasp on some things here.
