I need to get some dental work done. I don't want to pay through the nose for it here, so I'm thinking China. Has anyone ever had any dental work done in China?
Thailand is cheap, I know, as in 25 bucks for two wisdom teeth extractions, but the plane flight....Ditto for India. I figure I can just take the boat over to the big red land and get everything done there. |

Don't forget to add in the extra 120-150k won for the visa costs (I assume you are American).

how much are you being told it will cost?
K dentistry is excellent but one does need to shop around.
Yonsei has a pretty new dental hospital - they are very reasonably priced and give excellent service. |

Depends on what you need and whether or not you have NHIC medical.
Basic fillings or a tooth removal are between 3500 won (filling) and 10k won (tooth removal) with NHIC.
Root canals and crowns vary widely - price shop them.
Veneers are about 100k each.

I had some work done a year ago in Seoul by a Mr Choi who is licensed in the USA and Korea as a Dental Technician (& I was, and am, happy with his work).
He and his brother (a dentist) operate two clinics, one in Seoul (Gangnam?) & the other in China. He told me that their Chinese prices were significantly lower than what they charge in Korea.
Directions to Seoul clinic:
from Samseung subway station, take exit 2, then walk straight ahead (4-5 mins?) to the Plato building, on a corner on the left. The clinic is on the 2nd floor.

Is that a typo? 100,000 won for porcelain veneers?

IF they�re decent enough, that�s amazing! Actually, all of those prices seem really low.

| I have nat'l insurance and yesterday I paid 120,000 to have a cavity filled. They said getting a cavity filled was not covered by the nat'l insurance. |

| Fillings are not covered by the insurance. Root canals are covered. I go to a dentist that had a practice in the states for 10 years. Veneers were about 500k a tooth and you usually need to get two at a time. Gold crowns were 250k and porcelain(spelling) were 300k. Fillings are around 150k. Implants were 1mil, that includes the implant and the restoration. |

| I wouldn't trust China for anything as they do low quality work in all areas. Thailand is a great place to get dentistry and they do great work with a high attention to detail. Fillings are only $15 to $30, scaling is $15, and crowns are $200 to $400, but implants are $1000. They say the implants are American made so they're expensive. In America, you'd pay a whole lot more for dentistry. So many people are chomping at the bit to get their mouths fixed, but can't afford, therefore have no access to needed dental care. I suffered many years of dental pain and ugly front teeth. Finally I got this nifty teaching English gig in Korea that allowed me the money and time to go on vacation to place that has affordable high quality dentistry. Problem solved. |
