Just watched the episode last night and when they introduced each myth or theory they seemed pretty convincing...but as soon as they tested it was squashed.

shadows going in various directions with only one light source

illuminated man standing in the shadow of a lander

foot print in the soil

slow mo walking fake video

waving flag

All these theories got totally owned.....way to go mythbusters. Awesome episode.

A July episode of Mythbusters "confirmed" that memory-recall is better under hypnosis - indirectly giving more credence to accounts of alien abductions given while under hypnosis...

Oh geez. When people are more relaxed they have better recall in some narrow band of tasks. This lends credence to your whacko theory?

No.

There's strong peer reviewed science that therapists can implant memories in subjects.

See, Rteacher, unlike your religion, science doesn't just make up a just so story and walk away from the table. They begin to rigorously TEST their just so story. They look for a mechanism.

I think that my modest assertion is valid as stated - any confirmation that memory recall is better under hypnosis indirectly gives more credence to accounts of alien abduction given under hypnosis.

I didn't assert that there's a preponderance of evidence to support alien-abduction theory, nor did I deny the possible influence of other factors (such as memories being implanted by therapists or patients confusing their own fantasies with reality)

Actually, many people have claimed to have been abducted, and there is at least some physical evidence for it - albeit questionable (and in broken English):

This reported North Dakota encounter seems fairly credible (if not replicable):

We have on the table evidence under hypnosis people can recall both real things and imaginary. This supports your hypothesis how exactly?

Are you prepared to wait "3 years or whenever Mythbusters decides [to] tackle the 9/11 conspiracy theories, whichever comes first" for a response? Hmm?

I think the truthers have 'peaked'. The moon people don't matter.

The finding that under hypnosis one can recall real as well as imaginary things and events partially supports the alien abduction hypothesis.

If the event really happened, a traumatized abductee would have better recollection of it under hypnosis.

The fact that imaginary events can also be recalled under hypnosis obviously makes it more difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff. Therefore, other methods and techniques need to be developed and used in conjunction with hypnosis.

Your logic is crap. First let's ignore this:

Assuming the mythbuster's experiment is scientific, it demonstrates those relaxed can recall a narrow range of details more than when they're not relaxed.

Sorry, you can't then proceed from that to your claims.

The real problem is this:

A can show B or C.
Is X a B or C case?
We apply A. A lets us say it's either B or C.

You're not really closer to your goal, are you?

A memory under hypnonsis could either be true with increased accuracy or a false memory.

Yes, we've eliminated the case where A always leads to C. But so what?

To me (who sees the glass half-full) there's obviously a need for further investigation and corroboration to ascertain whether the hypnosis-recall is real or imagined.

There's some inconclusive evidence - along with lots of obviously fake stuff. I consider this one to be decidedly inconclusive:

Are you seriously suggesting tax dollars be spent researching alien abductions?

According to some, the U.S. government has already spent big sums of "black budgeted" money on UFO/alien-related projects.

This amusing article (which seems stranger than fiction - and may have been inspired by the world view of Terminator movies) estimates that upwards 3 trillion dollars have been spent thusfar.
http://leapingrealeyes.blogspot.com/2006/03/alien-ufo-dulce-investigation.html

Because the subject matter is interesting (with great potential entertainment value if nothing else) the field is rife with fraud and sophisticated hoaxes. Is this one faked?
http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/air_space/4266921.html

This satirical site pokes fun at Dennis Kucinich for seeing - and apparently "receiving a message" - from a UFO, but also relates Ronald (and Nancy) Reagon's experiences with them.

If there's a reasonable chance that any of the reported host of alien encounters are real, I would think that would constitute a compelling public interest to fully investigate.http://www.creativeminorityreport.com/2007/10/kucinich-sees-ufo-im-not-kidding.html

Many tinfoil hat wearers claim our outstanding technological advances since the 1950s have came from reverse engineering alien saucer technology found at Roswell, not through a lot of hard work by scientists.

I would argue space aliens that can visit the earth are using technology hundreds, if not thousands, of years more advanced than ours. Now consider an F14 crashes behind Union lines during the civil war. What chance do you think Union scientists in the 19th century could figure out technology only about 100 years more advanced (not hundreds or thousands)?

If other civilizations are so much more advanced technologically, they may have also mastered time travel (to occasionally expedite things on primitive planets...)
