| In the event that the mother covered up her daughters pregnancy, and assumed responsibility of a disabled child out of compassion for her kids reputation and future, I'd say it is solid evidence of a morally sound woman. However, I'm sure the story is nonsense. |
My feelings as well.
This would not affect my vote (if I had one). |

| For that matter had she not been pregnant wouldn't someone have noticed? Did she disappear for three months? |

If Weekly World News were still in print they'd probably find a link between her baby and "Bat Boy" (since they'd already used the "alien baby" angle with Hillary ...)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weekly_World_News
Actually, a little-known online version of WWN still remains, and they've authoritatively reported (citing the elusive "reknown political scientist", Dr. Robert Keckley...) that the Alien who's consistently sided with Republicans has gotten fed up with Bush's bungling and thrown his support behind Obama this time (though "W"s in denial about this...)

If the VP debates are done in a "townhall" format, I hope someone asks Palin about her views about teaching creationism in public schools.
From what I've heard, her current position on that topic is fairly reasonable. She thinks that discussion of alternative views should be allowed in classes - if brought up by students - but that religion shouldn't be a formal part of the science curriculum.
Here's more on that from the Wikepedia article:
In a televised debate, Palin stated that she supported teaching both creationism and evolution in public schools. The next day she clarified her position, and stated that if a debate of alternaive views arose in class she would not prohibit its discussion. She added that would not push the state Board of Education to add such creation-based alternatives to the state's required curriculum.[84]

Isn't that the way things are now? I know in my classes on pre-history the debate always arose when Ronnie Religious brought up the old 'But where's the missing link?' saw. |

I'd like to see someone ask her her views of allowing Trig to procreate (Right-to-Life) when he awakens to his own sexual desires in 15-16 or so years from now.
What RIGHTS will he have at that juncture in his life? Will there be a vasectomy in his future? Do they let nature take it's course? Or will there be a great bible edict stating "Do not let the retarded have any fun either."
Have the Right-to-Lifers thought this far ahead?
Edit: I've just been informed that Down Syndrome males are sterile from birth. So guess that makes my question a moot point? They still have a sex drive though? Or is this where another Abstinence education question comes in? |

| Her daughter is currently 5 months pregnant. Clearly it's Sarah's child. Either dig up another conspiracy theory or delete this thread. |

Ok, the baby is Sarah's.
Still doesn't explain all the poor judgements she made during the birth. She put herself and an ALREADY at-risk child at risk going to Texas at 36 weeks in the first place. That's Pro-Life? That's sheer wrecklessness.
And why? So she could sell Texas oil? Yea, you'd like to see that deleted? |

Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown reports: At a press avail in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama on Palin: "Back off these kinds of stories."
"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off limits. This shouldn't be part of politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor and or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldnt be a topic of our politics."
On charges that his campaign has stoked the story via liberal blogs:
"I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us," he said. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired." |

Well, here's something which is not a rumor.

| Republican vice presidential pick Sarah Palin revealed Monday that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, in the latest bombshell to rock the Hurricane Gustav-curtailed Republican convention. |
I'm sure everyone on the Republican side would be playing nice if it were the Obamas who had an unmarried knocked-up teenager. Or if it had been, say, Chelsea Clinton. |

Remember how embarrassed you were by just about everything when you were a teenager? I'll bet Bristol is mortified beyond belief by the current situation.
It's definitely time to leave the kid alone. |

Am I the only one hoping that Sarah doesn't have a say in naming Bristol's child?
Seriously, the attacks just look BAD. I'd like to see an ad commending Bristol's decision to carry the child, and noting that the Democrats want every woman to have the same freedom to decide. |

After a McCain aid accused "liberal blogs" supporting Obama of pushing "with fervor" a "false story" about the pregnancy, Obama made a pretty strong statement about not targeting family members:
Speaking to reporters in Monroe, Michigan, Obama said he was offended by the McCain aide's statement and that he considered people's families off-limits.
..."We don't go after people's families. We don't get them involved in the politics. It's not appropriate and it's not relevant. Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be. And if I ever thought there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they'd be fired," Obama said.
Obama also said: "This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor or potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories." ...http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080901/pl_nm/usa_politics_palin_dc_5 |
