| I miss what it used to be. It's pretty sad these days. Very dead. 2002 was its peak (for me, as that's when I came here) and it's been downhill ever since. i heard it used to be really interesting before the subway was there. |

I don't mind Itaewon during the day: I like to get some middle Eastern food and other international foods, English books and magazines, and see a more diverse population.
However I stay FAR from it at night. Enough said. |
I'm pretty much the same. I love some of the restaurants in the area and I don't mind grabbing a drink once every month or two there, but...so many of the places resemble an American frat house--the people, the atmosphere, everything. If I want to have American men shout sexual comments that they think are going to win them points, gee, I guess it would be fantastic. Or maybe I'd go there if I wanted to see a really intense foreigner shouting match. But other than that...nope.
I don't see how Hongdae is clique-ish, either. Overall, people are extremely friendly and outgoing. It also has some fun underground music clubs. |

Now days, all the GI guys hangout in HongDae all night.
So, by default, Itaewon is becoming the more interesting place. |
If the GI's and the wannabe tough guy university students go at it, in Hongdae, everybody wins. |

Thats too bad because i'd really like to see a 60 + year old waygookin "hanging out" in hongdae. |

Well said. |

| I don't think Itaweon is dangerous at night. The reason I go to Itaweon more is b/c its closer but I do like the vibe of Hongdae much better. |

The peak was '98/'99 when all of the other bars in the city had to close at 12:00. 신촌 emptied around around 11, the illegal after-hours places in 홍대 were popping with ultra-cool people until 1:00 or 2:00, and then 이태원 became one giant seething mass of everything both and wrong and right about humanity from around 1:00 to 4:00 as people from 홍대 and 강남 and 종로 descended. Hooker Hill could barely be navigated because it was packed with people having an all night street party (the bars were too packed to get more people into them.
This was before it had good restaurants and before army curfews and was always an adventure of some sort.

Itaewon is the death of me, really. I get my paycheck and blow it and come to work on Monday thinking "Advance, please." I just cannot control my money spending when I drink.
I have 21,600 Won left and payday is the 30th. Hmm.
Oh well. I'll still go again, but I have to bite the bullet for a while. |

That's absolutely incredible. You got paid on Friday, and that's what's left? |

Bwahahahahahaha!
Seriously though, anybody who thinks that Itaewon is a dangerous, sleazy place has lived a very, very sheltered life. |

Yeah, I've been sort of behind this year. Each pay has advances taken out of it. I think it all stems from when I was living in Taiwan on next to nothing. Or I'm just not good with money. |

Obviously I'll have to get an advance. Thing is, I've already gotten 2 or 3 advances since starting this job. Not that I owe anyone anything though. I don't owe my employer anything and I don't have any bills.
I spend money like it's going out of style. My pension money (3 years' worth, my paychecks, etc.). |
