| What is wonjongim thinking when he tells you very important things 2 seconds before they happen? (class changes, moving appartment etc.) |
| You must do as I say because you are 'inferior' in this relationship (no guilt). |

This was inspired by crazylemongirl's thread about her boss giving her a moments notice that she was going to be moving appartments (and my own similar experiences... and I'm not Korean bashing, I'm just trying to understand)
When wonjongnim is p***ing you off, what is going through his mind??
I figure since they are our 'superiors' then they see our role as fulfilling any wish of theirs at ANY time.. I doubt there are any feelings of guilt about the short notice.. I doubt it has anything to do with race as korean teachers have to be more subservient than us.. bowing, honorific language etc.. Confucianism can be a b*** at times.. |

I don't know know what goes through my directors head. I know that she is very traditional, she doesn't like me not wearing skirts or going without make up because she thinks that women should 'look' a certain way. So I think the confusian I'm higher up the foodchain thing is defeintly at play.
She's giving me crap because my toilet is not working properly despite the fact I complained about almost 2 months ago and NOTHING was done about it.
Since then I have been doing a makeshift plumber routine in order to get a semi working toilet. And don't even get me started on the wiring.
my new apartment has a hole in it where the water from the undol on the apartment aboves leaks down the wall.
classy digs I live in.
sorry for my moaning people it's being a really bad day and I need another waygook to moan at but I'm the lone waygook and me new place also doesn't have a phone.

You're making a pretty big assumption with the title of this post...that Koreans HAVE a thought process. |

HA HA HA!! That is too good Corporal. I was almost duped into believing that there was a thought process. I think it's cleverly disguised to appear that there is a thought process, but really it's just a conditioned behaviour.
I think that WJN believes he (or she) is superior and you must do as they command without question, no matter how ridiculous. Simply because they don't believe they could ever be wrong, it's not part of the "thought process".
It's just a greed machine.

Directors here like to keep a distance, aloofness from their employees, usually by inserting a supervisor/mediator through which all communications must be made. that way, the supervisor takes all the pressure and s**t for any unpopular decisions.
without such a middleman, your wonjangnim will usually reluctantly have to speak to you face to face, often after putting it off for as long as humanly possible, and hoping that you heard the news from office gossip or something else first.
(I voted opion "C"). |

What I used to do was make it effect them. Once they realised that for every illogical action they carried out there was a reaction that would effect them, the illogical actions dried up.
Example: Toilet is broken. You ask loads of times, nothing is done. Ring you boss at 4am every night and say "my toilet is making noise..what should I do?" If still no reaction. Stop coming in on time. they will ring you. Simply say "my toilet is overflowing..what should I do"?
If they want to treat you like a moron, act like one.
Face saving/losing..its all crap when it hits them in the pocket and your previously aloof boss is stuck with his hands down your toilet. |
