Is this not the most inadequate response to our present problems?
Well, the GOP is pushing it hard. Frankly, I'm embarrassed for them. |

You know I really don't care if it pushes the price of oil down (although I voted no). I hope that prices stay high because the United States is too dependent on cars and gas. I hope these high prices will push both the government and business to pour resources into alternative energy, and lead to better urban planning. |

I'm sorry. The only correct answer is we must become more independant in regards to oil in order to defeat the evil doers. I thought everyone knew that. |

We really need to look into Compressed Natural Gas, at least we have an abundance of that IN the US. We should also look into biofuels that AREN'T corn. Pols like Harkin are injuring the country to prop up factory farms in Iowa and that's not right on so many levels. Switch grass is the way to go, and there are weeds that are even better and can be used to make both bio fuel and to be burned in coal plants.
Drilling MIGHT make a different ten years down the road. The problem with offshore drilling is that most of it happens in the Gulf, and since we're on a track to have stronger and more frequent hurricanes that's a bad idea on so many levels. |

Why not? We will not be 100% off oil in even 20 years. Why send that money to the Saudi's and Hugo? |

Why not try and see? Open up Alaska and drill the coastline. Some people believe that we have more oil up there than Saudia Arabia has.
Build 50 more nuclear plants.
Why not try? |

Lindsey Williams talks about his first hand knowledge of Alaskan oil reserves larger than any on earth. And he talks about how the oil companies and U.S. government won't send it through the pipeline for U.S. citizens to use.

I don't know how legit this guy is, but it's pretty interesting stuff. Noticed how he predicted the price of oil going up to 5 bucks before it did. |

It won't move prices: worldwide supply and demand do that. What it will do is help the current account deficit, $2B a day for oil alone. |

No, offshore drilling will not lower prices. Demand in the US, China and around the world is going to continue to increase. |

Dave, if demand is going to continue to increase and new supply not added what will happen?
You all sound like a bunch of California Democrats. Of COURSE you drill in the United States. It is much more complicated that the talking points we're being fed. |

Of course it is more complicated, we won't see oil from new drilling for 10 years. Yet people aren't heeding the call to further develop alternative energy. Oh, that's just a bunch of enviromental whiners I know.

Right. Your poll question, then, really asks this: do you people at Dave's ESL Cafe prefer B. Obama or J. McCain? |
