Now I understand the last paycheck being a big one and all, but am I to believe that payroll is really clueless on how much money they owe me. Is this a tactic banking heavily on my inability to count beans. No pun intended.
What an akward position to have to remind your employer how large your deposit should be. And why the hell do I feel like "I" am doing something wrong? |

Keep an eye on how much they actually pay you every month. Also, keep a close track of any OT.
They're testing you to see if you'll let things slide by. Many don't check on these things and get cheated. |

OP, that bouncing cat dude jammin out is right. It sure disappointed and pisses me off to be tested to see what they can get past me. I went through the exact same situation and feelings as you when teaching in a hagwon. Being shorted on pay was a regular monthly occurrence. Just be direct and concise with the director in that you expect what was promised and is owed to you or you will be looking to work some place else. In the end, I got respect, was told the truth and I got all my money owed. It was a bitter year for me and waste of part of my lifetime to teach for this stupid hagwon. |

That bouncing cat is an insult to old Korean people. Native speakers must behave exactly like Koreans! |

OP, if you want to test this then ask for MORE money than you are actually owed. All of a sudden, they'll remember exactly how much they owe you. |

Per the off topic post... I'm guessing it didn't end in bed, else he wouldn't be complaining! And what's wrong with eating a lot? Some of my korean friends eat so much I swear they must be putting it in their leg or something!!! |

You said it. I've heard this from so many people and when I started my old job I was warned this would happen when I left. They are hoping you forget about the deposit on your cable box, overtime, apartment deposit etc. New teachers keep careful records! |

There was an intitial "mix-up," but it all got sorted out. What a stressful situation, especially when you are talking about thousands of dollars.
Still don't know how much was intentional or just mistake, but the fact that I actually had to go back and point out the error should be a disgrace to any company. |

OP, that's NOT an "honest" question from your boss. It's a loaded question. Expect more of the same throughout the contracted period. |

I don't know your whole situation, but if you have any trust for your employer, give him the benefit of the doubt that it was an honest mistake. I am responsible for preparing payroll for my teachers, and I have made the occasional mistake, which has been rectified at the earliest possible chance. Also, my accountant has made the odd mistake here and there, and again they were fixed asap. He has over 100 staff members that he prepares payroll for.
This month, when there was a lot of overtime for my teachers, I made sure to ask each teacher if my tally was correct. Then once submitted, I checked the accountant's numbers on the pay stubs provided. I caught a mistake before pay was made.
I guess I am trying to say that sometimes mistakes do happen. When I make the mistake, I own up to it immediately. |
