What else is there to do besides sitting at home? Will stores and restaurants be open? What about bars?

I have enough miles for a free trip to Japan but I heard the airport will be a madhouse. Any foreigner related activities? Would anyone be interested in planning such an event? Your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Stores and restaurants will be hit and miss. Some places will be closed, some will be open.

There isn't really anything special to do, that I know of, unless you have some ancestral graves in the countryside somewhere that need tending. . .

You have enough for a free ticket to Japan and you're considering staying here during the holiday?

No way dude. Go to Japan. If there's still tickets available.

Or go to Bangkok. LOTS of tickets available now, for cheaper because of the situation.

depends where you are and what kind of activities you're looking to do.

if you're in seoul then getting out of the city will be an absolute nightmare in terms of traffic. staying in the city and exploring the area is the best time because so the city will be a ghost town compared to the normal number of inhabitants.

travelling into the city is a good idea for people that want to visit seoul b/c the traffic will be non-existant in that direction.

Loads of foreigners head to Deokjeok Do during Chuseok to do some camping on Seopori beach.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I live in the Suwon area so I suppose I could do some exploring around here. If anyone wants to get a group together to have some cocktails in Seoul I would definitely be up for that.

Going to Japan would be cool but with the whole money situation right now I really have to watch my p's and q's.

Excluding the weekends, I'll get 2 days off. Still, its a 4 day weekend. Probably head down south to Yeosu or something.

I love Seoul during the big K- holidays. All the usual stuff, with half the crowds. Department stores and banks tend to be closed for the duration, but just about everything else will only be closed on the actual day of Chuseok, and sometimes only for the morning then. Insadong tends to have parades and things for foreigners during K-holidays

Also a large group of foreigners planning to play a little frisbee along with camping on Deokjeok Do. It's a yearly tradition for many people I know.

Where is that?

I was thinking about taking the subway to Incheon and then taking a ferry to one of the islands.

What: Biannual Deokjeokdo Camping Trip (May and September)

Where: Seopori Beach, Deokjeok Island

When: September 13, 14, 15

Price: Free This is a DIY affair

How: 60min. ferry from Domestic Ferry Terminal in Yeonam Budu(Incheon Port), bus to beach 10min

Ferry Info: (032)887-2891~5

Abodes: There is camping on the beach or motels, I recommend camping.

Food: There are restaurants and supermarkets, again I recommend
bring your own food in a cooler and cooking on the beach.

To Do: Swimming, disk golf, camp fires, camp songs, camp sex

Note: The ferry is usually really full this time of year so I would
reserve tickets now.

I hear this Chuseok won't have too many peeps going home or away since it's relatively short.

Most stores will probably be open Saturday and Monday. Sunday is Chuseok Day and thus that'll be the day most joints are closed.
