You should specify from which airline you want to buy mileage.
As far as I know, you can use your mileage from any StarAlliance member on any StarAlliance member airline, but you cannot combine mileage from difference airlines. For example, if you had 15,000 miles with Air Canada and 30,000 miles with Asiana, you wouldn't be able to combine them to make 45,000 miles. |

This, too, depends on the airline.
With Air Canada you can transfer mileage to anyone, but there is a fee for that. It's not cheap but it is cheaper than buying mileage from the company (actually from Aeroplan not Air Canada).
With KAL you can tranfer mileage for free to family members only. Anyway, you could when I did it something like 4 years ago. I don't know if it has changed.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think Asiana had similar rules to KAL, but that too may have changed when they joined Star Alliance.
It's be best to take a look at the website of your airline. Then, you should be able to find all the information you need since they all have different rules. |

I've got a friend who's a Star Alliance member (Singapore Airlines) and he has more than 5000 miles expiring - unless he uses them in October and November...want me to ask him? |

My understanding is that you can accumulate miles from various airlines and use them on all the airlines that belong to star alliance.
Yup. From their website:
| Quote: |
Q. Can I combine miles or points for free tickets?
A. No. Miles or points cannot be combined between Star Alliance airline frequent flyer programmes.
Q. Can I redeem miles or points for awards on Star Alliance member airlines?
A. Yes. You are able to use your miles or points accumulated in one programme for travel awards on any of the Star Alliance airlines. For information and/or booking information, you will need to refer to your frequent flyer programme directly. |

tzechuk is right... and wrong, because her answer is not complete.
You can accumulate miles from any airline and use them with any airline but you cannot combine miles that you would have put in your Air Canada account with some in your Asiana account, for instance.
That means that if you want to use miles from your Thai account and need a few thousand more, then you need to find someone who can tranfer you miles from another Thai account. You cannot transfer miles into a Thai account from any other Star Alliance member than Thai. |

not 100% sure of the answer myself (although I think CMR is correct) .....I highly recommend posting on this forum if you want an accurate answer.

I`m with FlyingBlue and it`s a bit different with this program. Hotel stays, online survey`s ,car rentals aren`t considered as `activity` to keep an account active - only Skyteam flights......(unlike Star Alliance I believe) |
