|

I didn't get the memo about bringing gifts from home when I started my PS job so someone suggested getting gifts for my co-teacher, principal, and vice principal for Choseuk.
Some teachers said that fruit is a common thing to give, but those fruit boxes are like 30,000 won or more and huge. Also, how much should I spend on each person?
I sucked at buying gifts in the US. I think I suck at it in Korea too. |

Don't give them anything.
My coteacher from my last school said it perfectly, "Has the principal or VP ever given you extra travel/spending money on work related trips? Have they ever given you any gifts? If not, then don't waste your money. " |

I wouldn't bother to bring gifts for everyone. Buy a cake, fruit, chocolate, or something else that can be divided up among the other teachers. I wouldn't bother to buy anything for the principal.
This is my 4th Chuseok. My old hagwon boss gave me peanut butter my first year and a bag of 300won corn chips my second year. Last year at my public school I think I got 떡.

second.
Chuseok is not really a gift giving holiday anyway. Last year I got soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc from my principal. You shouldn't give them anythign for Chuseok.
If you want to be nice, give them a gift when you take a vacation. When you come back, bring a gift. |

Unless you are exceptionally well-treated at your school, there is no reason to give anyone anything for Chuseok.
You are not Korean and Chuseok is not part of your culture, so if anyone should give anybody else something it's your principal not you. |

| Agree. Christmas is better, if you want to give gifts. I gave my principal a bottle of hard alcohol, and he clearly enjoyed it. |

| Don't give those cheap bassturds anything. Plus they're all high on themselves because they're, wow, principals. Oooh. Principal's coming in. We must stand up. Fk that. |

i agree with this; unless your school has really gone above and beyond what's required of them, i wouldn't give any gifts. and don't worry, not everyone gives out presents at their public schools (although i usually do). |

As nice as my principal is, I don't see why I would give him anything for Chuseok. I thought that the gift giving usually goes down, from boss to employee. I know a few Korean teachers though that give gifts to the principal, but that seems like ass kissing to help them get a promotion some day. There are a lot of office politics in public schools that you may not be aware of because of the language barrier. |
