If anyone has experience teaching listening and speaking and has tried numerous or a few textbooks and has decided that one text truly outshines the others, please let me know which one it was.

Before responding, you should know that I need the book for adults of 'low intermediate'.

I really want to know how the books and the activities have been received by the students. Thanks.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. English Firsthand is one of the best listening/speaking books I've come across for adults. I just finished a course using Book 2, and the students liked it so much, they wanted an extra four classes to go through the book again! Unfortunately, Book 2 is the last in the series of four books.

I'd recommend "English Firsthand Success," the second in the series. While I haven't personally used that book, if it's anything like the one I used, you won't regret it.

Edit: You can pick it up at Books Libro, and, I'm sure, at any other big book store.

Hey EC.

you teach the same vocational HS students that I do, except yours are smarter Smile

I have a special after school class. 12 students... they're fairly motivated, at least most of them, and definitely better than my average lot.

would you recommend this book for them or such a class?

The SLE series from Pagoda are fairly for supplementary activities, but I wouldn't use it as a main text.

For purely speaking and listening, I'm quite fond of English 50/50.
