So I was all set to leave tomorrow, Saturday the 6th, except now it is Friday and my visa has not been mailed back form the embassy in Chicago yet. When they open I am going to call and see if I can get any information on it, and there is still hope that it will come in today's mail. If it doesn't, it's a pretty big problem because I will have to reschedule my flight and fit into a different training session with my company, and who knows how much later that will be. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm expecting that the embassy will either tell me that it should arrive today, that they have not sent it yet, or that they don't know anything. If it means driving 11 hours roundtrip to get my visa, I would do that in a second. I'm just not sure what my other options are...anyone else have experience with delayed visas?

Spartacus, if you used a USPS express mail envelope as the return envelope, contact the consulate and see if they've kept the customer copy of the mailing label. This has the tracking number and you can use that to see where the package is.

In my case, the post office didn't print both tracking numbers on my receipt when I paid for the envelopes, and I failed to check on the return envelope's tracking number when I had the chance. After not getting anything for a day after the consulate said my passport with visa was mailed back, I got worried.

Luckily, the LA consulate staff had the tracking number on file at their office and gave it to me. The package should be arriving today based on what the USPS website indicates under the "track and confirm" feature.

I found the LA consulate to be very helpful and prompt about everything, including granting me a phone interview with no fuss at all, whereas I have read mostly bad stuff about the Chicago consulate on this forum. I hope they come through for you.

If you end up having to change your flight, keep the receipt for any ticket change fees and ask your school to reimburse that in addition to airfare.

Have my visa in hand, heading to the airport in an hour! Called the embassy, they were able to tell me when they had shipped it and when it should arrive. Thanks for the help, Aerial.

... and some good cheese? The chocolate-flavoured, process 'cheese' slices just don't 'wind my crank' anymore. Sad
