Ho Lee Chow at the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon is about as close as you can get.

The two things that I was most homesick for living in Korea were western Chinese food and my dog. Having discovered Ho Lee Chow, all I have to worry about now is my poor old dog, because I no longer feel the compulsion to travel to another hemisphere just for Chinese take-out.

You could also try Jackie's Kitchen in COEX mall.

So the Ho Lee Chow gets the thumbs up?

If you order the "Tan Su Yook" that's pretty close to the American style sweet and sour pork.

(Chinese) food for thought: the most popular "Chinese" dish in the West is General Tso's chicken, yet the Chinese in China have never heard of it.

Ho Lee Chow has several locations: Itaewon, Ilsan, Lotte World, Apgujeong (Hakdong Intersection) and a few others.

Jackie's Kitchen is good and cheaper than Ho Lee Chow, and has like five locations throughout Seoul and vicinity.

A lot of new Chinese joints in Korea are also going the fushion route, which might suit Western palates.

What do you mean by western chinese food? If you mean Sichuan it shouldn't be too difficult to find, chinese restaurants often specialise by region here, just ask a K-colleague to help you find one....

Western Chinese food is food that you find if you go to any Chinese Takeout place in the US or Canada. Dishes are things like:

Beef and Broccoli
Kung Pao Chicken
Hunan Shrimp
Egg Foo Young
Happy Family
4 Treasures
General Tso Chicken
Fried Rice
Lo Mein
Wonton Soup
Egg Drop Soup
Hot and Sour Soup
etc...etc...

The dishes are all cooked in a wok, stir fried with a brown/white/or red sauce on top.

You eat it, then 30 minutes later you are hungry again. There is a ton of oil and grease in Western Chinese food.

I hope you're joking. We're talking about white-people Chinese food.

Korean Chinese food is not particularly much more authentic than western Chinese food. At least western Chinese food was made by Chinese people. Korean Chinese food was made by Koreans who lived in China.

Awesome. I'll check it out. A friend also recommended this place.

I prefer the Korean Chinese style tang su yuk to the American sweet and sour pork in that disgusting red sauce.
