Would welcome some suggestions on a good jacket that will cover most weather conditions, quality comes first over price as i wont this jacket to last me for a couple of years of travelling round the world. wont be doing major hikes or heading to the south pole but the Korean winter does have a bite, but something that is light and will keep the rain out and the warmth in, would be great if it had a zip in fleece type thing too.
Im in the Bucheon area, so anywhere in seoul that has a good deal please let me know.
Many thanks for any advice in advance

First of all id highly suggest going with soemthing that has Gore Tex waterproofing fabric.
As for the zip in fleece, some jackets have it, some dont. But really. Its all about layers.
Get some good thermal shirts, a good fleece or sweatshirt, then the jacket over top.
Also means that come summer or hotter months when u still wanna wear the jacket cos its raining etc you can without being stinking hot. Plus GoreTex is a great breathable fabric so it will let moisture from inside escape without letting in water droplets.
Ive got a GoreTex shell and its the best jacket ive ever owned.
If u do get one, make sure to check the care instructions for how to wash and clean it. They can go in the washing machnie, and in the dryer!! |

What size are you? I've got an XXL Goretex shell (black) that is practically new, but I haven't worn it as I have others. Jack Wolfskin (the 'German North Face'). Good stuff. |

Go to a Marine Corps./ Army supply store, maybe outside Yongsan Stn. Best weatherproof gear you will ever find, and cheap (ish) too. |

North face has some water proof jackets too. I got a nice thin one. Its got a teflon coating, so the fabric is still breathable, and it keeps the water out. |

Get a North Face, Columbia, Mountain Hard Ware, Patagonia or MEC Jacket. They are all quality and last a long time. Of course it really depends on the exact jacket.
My favourite Jacket come from a shop in Canada called MEC, quality gear that's much cheaper than the others.
I have a jacket that is about 9 years old now and still kickin. Used it for a few seasons as a ski instructor, then travelled around Asia for a year with it. I use it for riding my motorcycle in the winter now. Burly jacket. 3 ply gore, still keeps most of the water out.
A quality jacket should be able to last a long time, often the high price tag provided your not buying something designed for summiting Everest or hard core back country.
A simple 3 ply (gore or entrant) shell, with a 200 fleece or synthetic fill jacket will do you well (don't buy down, price far outways the advantages). |
