North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has been dead for years and replaced by a number of look-alikes, a Japanese academic claims.

North Korea expert Professor Toshimitsu Shigemura, a professor of international relations, says Kim died of diabetes in 2003 and has been substituted by up to four body doubles ever since.

Driven by a fear of assassination, Kim allegedly trained his doppelgangers one of whom underwent plastic surgery to attend public appearances.

"Scholars dont trust my reasoning but intelligence people see the possibility that it will turn out to be accurate," Fox News reported Professor Shigemura as saying.

"I have identified and pinned down every source."

Kim, 66, has not appeared in public for three weeks amid rumours he is seriously unwell.

While Seoul intelligence officials have said they believe he has diabetes and heart problems, they do not think he is near death.

But Professor Shigemura, from Tokyo's respected Waseda University, believes that Kim actually died sometime during a 42-day absence from public in September 2003.

He claims that whenever anyone is granted a face-to-face meeting with today's Kim, a senior official is always by his side "like a puppet master".

Professor Shigemura's claims, outlined in his book The True Character of Kim Jong-il, have been disputed by North Korean officials.

I don't know if there is any truth behind this - but just wanted to see what other people think...

I wish this were true but the same rumours about Saddam never came to anything.

Somebody should assasinate that guy though. And his cousin Menta-Li Il. Zing!

If he did die - would the north ever tell anybody - wouldn't we have to live with his "doubles" for the next 50 years...?

Question

http://www.japantoday.com/category/kuchikomi/view/north-koreas-kim-died-in-2003-and-was-replaced-by-lookalike-says-waseda-profesor

A dictator having one or multiple doubles is a familiar notion since Iraqs Saddam Hussein was shown to have deployed them. But Saddam was alive at the time. Kim, in Shigemuras scenario, was not manipulating a look-alike; he was replaced by one.

In the spring of 2006, says Shigemura, American spy satellites succeeded in photographing Kim. An analysis of the photographs led to an astonishing conclusion: Kim had grown 2.5 cm!

One of its principal claims is that a voiceprint analysis of Kims speech at a 2004 meeting with Junichiro Koizumi, then the Japanese prime minister, did not match an authenticated earlier recording.

The question has reportedly "baffled foreign intelligence agencies for years".

He wears lift shoes... that explains the 2.5 cm.

Also, if you compare those photos, the ears are perfect. Ears are something that even the best plastic surgeons can't duplicate correctly.

That Japanese guy is just drawing attention to himself. KJI ain't dead.

Couldn't they have cut the ears off of the dead kim and sewn them on the new one?

Somebody should take the tour and ask, "Hey, I heard that Kim Jung Il is really dead, and that they sewed his ears on his body double."

I wonder how that would go over. Laughing

I knew a lady who was a secretary at the CIA. In Mao's last years they also thought he was dead. Whenever a new picture would appear she would send it to an ear specialist in Iowa.

It is definantly possible.

At least once a month i'll see a guy on the street who looks exactly like Kim Jong Il. With a little surgery and training, it would be easy for someone to pull it off.

Shigemura must be a Kagemusha fan.

In Kagemusha, the imposter becomes bold and makes a mistake, revealing his identity. After that, the late ruler's son takes over the Takeda clan and leads an attack on a rival clan. The rival clan wipes out the Takeda.

So maybe Kim Jong-il's imposter will be revealed, and Kim Jong-chul will take over North Korea and attack South Korea, and South Korea will defeat North Korea and take over its territory.

Just a thought.
