| One of my friends is a slap-head but he is in denial. He even attempts the comb-over technique in an attempt to hide it. Don't do that - it doesn't work. |

| So can I just walk into any old clinic and see the doc, tell him I'm losing my hair (I speak Korean) and I'll get an Rx for proscar? Also, how often do you have to see the doc to get it refilled? |

Yes, and most doc's speak English anyway. If one say no, just go to a different dermatologist. |

| You MUST see a dermatologist... not just any old doctor. |

| You can just order them online from 4cornerspharmacy.com. I think that's the website. At least that's what I did in the states. They came from Hong Kong and it's dirt cheap. |

About four years ago, I went to a dermatologist to get some info on current drugs. But being that my doctor had a huge bald spot, I figured that there weren't any effective drugs out there.
My dermatologist wasn't really wild about Propecia. I think that he said that it's normally used for people with prostate problems, maybe. I can't remember, and I don't feel like looking it up. The hair growth results aren't that great, either.
Tried Rogaine. It only works on the back of the head. And there's so much alcohol in it, that you'll get massive dandruff, scratching your head all the time.
If a really effective hair-loss drug came out, it would be world-wide news.
I just shave my head with an electric razor. I never use a straight razor; stubble looks better. I also recommend just a bit of baby powder on the head. It reduces the shine somewhat. I'd never recommend a hair piece. They're so easy to spot. Just look at the countless adjummas. |

What's that?

It's a drug that blocks the hormone that causes male pattern baldness. It was originally developed to reverse and prevent enlarged prostate, which is caused by the very same hormone.
The trouble is it doesn't work very well. I recall a rather risky ad campaign by the company that makes the drug. A few years back they got a dozen Major League Baseball players who had thinning hair to use Propecia for a year. They did a before and after thing. Big press conference after these guys had used it for a year. "Okay guys, take off your ball caps and show everyone your thick heads of hair!" they did so and it was like "uh... I don't see a difference." I suppose you could argue that while it didn't reverse hair loss at least they hadn't lost any more hair. Maybe it does that though that's impossible to prove since we can't predict what the future would be like if they hadn't used the pill.
I don't know, maybe I should give it a shot. How much is it? |

Without doing much research, if my memory serves correctly propecia blocks the absorption of DHT. Its common practice to stack Propecia and something with Monoxodil (think Rogaine) and you hit the 'hair loss' from different angles. However, if you're bald bald (no shadow) then you're out of luck.
I just shave. Just don't grow a goatee with a shaved head. |

| Finasteride (active agent of Propecia/Proscar) can't help you if you're already bald. That's the only reason I could think of why people would call it useless. Its meant to prevent hair loss not reverse hair loss. |

Hi lads,
Nice to see alot of support among my fellow baldies. I'm losing my hair as well. The crown is ok just now but my hairline is receding at the sides. My dad and brother both are bald but have it shaved and look great. Unfortunately I have severe dermatitis which means my head is pretty scabby, especially at the back. I thought that maybe i could get it short (not shaved) and grow some facial hair. Sadly, due to the fact i also suffer from vitiligo, the stubble i can grow has big white patches which make it look strange. It looks like i'm going to look like a scabby egg in the near future.
Fate seems to have kicked me in the balls not once but thrice.
I use Minoxyl just now. Any other recommendations would be great. |

Morton, i sympathize with you. I to am starting to lose 'it' and also have scalp psoriasis...try propecia. I found some regrowth, but the side effects put me off using it for more than a year.
