Irish people in Korea pay into the state pension which 98% of them will never see back.

Koreans in Ireland don't have to pay into an Irish pension because it isn't required by law in the first instance.

I don't see how there is a basis for Korea to refund Irish pensions in the future, as both countries are already complying with their own conventions. It's a lose-lose situation for Korea.

On a separate note, do you think there are more Koreans in Ireland than there are Irish in Korea? There's a steadily growing community here and Ireland is becoming recognized as a location to send your kids to college.

I would say there are slightly more Koreans in Ireland than Irish in Korea but it is probably a bit seasonal because the students don't stay very long.

With the current global economic situation though I wouldn't be surprised if there was an increase in Irish graduates doing a stint in Korea after graduation until recruitment picks up again.

I went to Uni in Limerick and there was a fair few Koreans floating around there studying. I read somewhere that there was only 500-1000 Irish on E2's here. I wouldnt know really, there's a handful of us here in Daejeon but i always bump into loads when I'm Seoul
