U.S. Beef Flying Off the Shelves

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200809/200809090024.html

With less than a week remaining until the nations biggest holiday, Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving, beef from the United States is flying off the shelves. Consumers, burdened by steep inflation are looking to U.S. beef, which is much cheaper than the homegrown variety.
Yu Bo-hee, secretary general of the Korea Meat Import Association, said some 30 tons of U.S. beef was sold in last four days in their nine directly-run stores, three times more than usual. One shop in Noryangjin recorded daily sales of W50 million (US$1=W1,084), five times more than normal period. Kim Tae-yeol, the president of KOMIA said, It seems there was a huge potential demand for U.S. beef, although the social atmosphere did not allow it to surface. Sales of U.S. beef will dramatically increase after Chuseok.

The popularity of U.S. beef is reflected in quarantine inspection data as well. According to the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service on Monday, over 10,000 tons of U.S. beef passed inspection in just two months. Of the total, 3.698 tons of beef are already in distribution, the NVRQS said. U.S. beef has yet to reach department and superstores.

Anyone know the location of this butcher shop?

Maybe this thread is helping? Where to buy US beef.

Lol, very witty.

Think I'm still mainly just seeing hoju beef at my Emart, not that it would phase me either way. BTW Just how much cheaper is it?

Go to Cheongdam Station. There, in Samsung-dong, you'll find some decent shit at 1,300 Won for a 100 grams. The stuff is not bad. It even cooks well in a frying pan with a smidgeon of Olive Oil.

For the love of Jesus, can we please stop posting shit about US beef? Anyone with half a brain knew exactly what was going to happen. Some people would bitch and complain, but when it came down to it they'd buy it by the truckload. The protests are over, the K-People seem to have seen the error of their ways. Can we just drop it now and bask in our self-satisfaction in a more dignified fashion?

I just thought wylies was posting this because he's alarmed they're buying all his beef up. Judging from his other thread, he really really likes his beef!

You just know there's a bunch of cheap charlies who are buying US beef, relabelling it, and presenting it to family as Korean, saying they spent twice as much as they really did. After all, the quality is unipmortant, it's how much you spend that matters.

***

Then why are Koreans still telling me they will not buy US Beef cause it is bad and unsafe?

I have not seen any apology from the Protesters to the US Government, or from those who damaged Korean businesses.

If you have seen an official apology, please post a link.
