"WASHINGTON (AFP) � North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il has apparently suffered a health setback, "possibly a stroke," a US intelligence official said Tuesday.
"It does appear that Kim Jong-Il has had a health setback, possibly a stroke," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The official said it appeared to have happened in "the last couple of weeks."

Because the 'great leader' didn't attend the 60th anniversary of the creation of the country, it has renewed speculation that he is in fact either dead or unwell.

Speaking in the shadow of a larger-than-life portrait of the North Korean leader, the deputy head of the North Korean residents' association, Ho Jong Man, failed to comment on Kim's health.
Instead, his speech laid the blame for renewed nuclear tensions squarely at the feet of Washington.
"The United States is to blame for the lack of progress in the six-party talks because Washington has failed to remove Pyongyang from the list of terrorist states," he told a partisan crowd marking the "Hermit Kingdom's" anniversary.
"We will never allow the U.S. to come to North Korea and search within our boundaries, just as they are doing in Iraq at present," he said in an address that would have been scripted in the North Korean capital.

North Koreas problem was they thought they could actually complete this agreement without having to tell us how many and where their nukes are.
and when they wouldnt tell, we didn't remove them. |

What will become of NK?
He will be dead, if not now very soon. Death comes real fast once your health goes down the gurgler and you start on the surgery route. Heart surgery + diabetes + other diseases causing complications will affect him and will kill him if not having already done so. |

Well, a destabilized North Korea is a potentially dangerous news for us here.
There are reports they have been touting his sister as next in line to take over. THE DRPK has been calling her the equivilants as empress for the past couple of years I recall reading.
He also has male heirs but one was in Sweden studying last I checked and had little interest in taking over.
There is a chance though I think it small that fighting might break out which is a concern to our lives. Well, those of us in or near the border. Even though an attack on South Korea is doomed to ultimate failure. I've read reports that the sheer number of artillery pieces in the opening moments alone that are posessed by the North could rain down thousands of rounds a minute upon Seoul and border cities.
Again, I doubt that would manifest itself. It will probably be dictator business as usual as someone else steps up. There could be positive changes though leading to change. |

Who would fill a power vacuum in North Korea?
The Chinese would have to be careful not to look like they're taking a new colony. So, I'd assume they'd consult the South and strike an agreement to keep US troops south of the 38th parallel... and install a puppet president. Hmmmm...
Anyways, I'm with Bonhomme above. I want some Harem action. |
