I've found what I think is a pretty good organic food shop. It's called Hansalim (한살림).

http://www.hansalim.or.kr/

I'm not entirely sure how the company is structured, but there's a membership fee and I gather (from how my wife understood it) that it's non-profit. Anyway, the prices are a lot better than a neighborhood organic chain store that we used to sometimes go to (초록마을). Some of the vegetables' leaves have delightful little bug holes chewed through them so I guess they aren't using pesticides on the stuff we bought.

I didn't used to buy organic, but as time has gone by we've tried to pay more and more attention to what we eat. This is the best organic shop I've seen so far. Anyone else been there? Any other organic food stores to recommend, especially in the Anyang area?

Nice link to a "Death to America- No FTA" website on the linked page.
Sorry, but my money doesn't flow to that side of the political fence.

Why is everyone so obsessed with Organic. So my food has some pesticides to keep the bugs off or whatever but I don't want bugs crawling all over my food, a little bit of chemicals never hurt anyone. Stop sounding like a hippie.

"So I got a head of lettuce and when I cut into it I found a cockroach still alive eating my lettuce, it was delightful and the best part it has been living there in its own fesces (spl?) for days."

I've yet to see an organic store in Korea where Organic means anything more than "2,000 won extra please".

Some things definitely need to be organic: fruits you eat with skin on, etc etc. But a lot of things simply don't need to be organic. Organic go-chi-jjang? Really?

Heh heh. Seen Pulp Fiction?

"My wife eats organic food, which pretty much means I eat organic food."

I used to never think about what I ate, but my mother-in-law lives out in the sticks, and the constant spraying has got me to thinking. Fesces (sic) probably better in the long run than the crap they assault the crops with. And I'm not hurting for cash - might as well spend it on good eats. A couple of things seem clear though: as time goes by we'll likely have to pay more attention to what we eat, Korea is a much less natural environment than where most of us are from, and we don't know what's in the food. Whether it's worth it health-wise or money-wise isn't clear yet, but I'm gonna trust the bugs for a while and see how it goes.

LOL. I don't get it either but not for the same reason. If organic food was the same price as everything else, then I'd buy it but why should I be paying more for food that is as nature made it? How is that justifiable? Why is it if you want to eat healthy nowadays (organic or low-fat or with no additives), you have to pay more?
