I did a search and looked through a bunch of old threads so I know the basics, but most of what people were asking about seemed to be getting MAs to break into Korean university work.
Here's my situation:
I've been living in Korea for a while and like my hagwon job a lot (is far better than most hagwon jobs in a lot of ways) and I've been working there for a few years. I'm married and I've got a kid on the way and while I living here and have zero plans to go back to the states, there's no fucking way my child will ever step foot in a Korean public school.
So what I'm looking for is working towards getting an international school job and all of the good ones want teaching certification and (generally) two years of teaching experience with a Western curriculum (generally hagwons don't cut it for obvious reasons).
So what I'd like to do is get into an online teaching certification program and get a BEd on top of my BA in History and then get some teaching experience at either one of the crappier international schools or on one of the army base schools before getting a job at one of the better Seoul-area international schools.
Anyone have any idea what would be a good school to go through to do this? Money isn't too much of an issue and neither is time, just want a program that is reputable enough to get me a job at one of the better international schools. |

Online teacher certification is probably not possible.
You have to spend time in the classroom in a local school or be a direct higher for the alternative program. You have to be a resident of the state you are getting the cert in as well.
Then you have to take the state or federal exams like the Praxis exams in the US.
There are some online emergency cert programs but you have to have been hired conditionally by a US school first. |
