|
|
(There's no link- only a popup that is there when you go to the Korea Times homepage- http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/index.asp )
This is how the popup reads-
The Korea Times is holding an essay contest on Dokdo in cooperation with the Northeast Asian History Foundation to promote public awareness about the history of the rocky islets.
Koreans and foreign nationals, both in and out of Korea, are eligible to enter the contest titled "Why is Dokdo Korean Territory?" Applicants providing new pieces of evidence of Korea's sovereignty over the islets, including unpublished maps, photos and documents, will be given high marks.
The deadline for applications is Oct. 17. Submissions will be accepted online through email to [email protected].
Applicants are asked to submit an 800-word essay, a passport-size color photo (jpg. format), and a 50-word self-introduction. Inquiries will be answered only through the above email.
Winners will be given free round-trip tickets to Dokdo. Tickets are effective for one year. Overseas winners will also be given a free round-trip ticket from the airport nearest their home from which Korean-flagged airlines fly to Seoul.

Okay, folks, let's give it your best shot. I would love for a fake essay to win.
It's kind of a rip-off, though, that some gyopo in New York will get a roundtrip ticket to Seoul while all I'll get is a plaque and a trip to Dokdo. |

"Don't turn the map in for 1,000's of dollars or your name in a history book. No, just give it to us for a trip to a rock." |

Could this be why my students have been asking me what I think about Dokdo while they were getting to know me?
I stay as clear away from my opinion(but I don't know much other than who I trust more/whom to believe) as I can knowing that a University Native English Prof. was fired for sharing opposing views. |

Dokdo should belong to Korea just because nobody else in the world really cares, and so they will shut up about it. |

If you enter the contest and get published, it's worth at least a bottle of whiskey on me brother. |

I'll chuck in a hooker for anyone who manages to win a prize whilst including "Hub of Asia", "American beef", "Incheon Free Economic Zone", "Dynamic Korea", "Land of the Rising Sun", "the Great Emperor Hirohito", "All your Dokdo is belong to us" and a map which makes Dokdo look bigger than Okinawa in their entry.
Good luck! |

someone should make a map and put "dokdo" around the isle and write sea of japan right next to it, and see the reactions. |

What a fricking joke. Anyone have any old maps of Korea depicting Dokdo accurately? Now is your chance to be a national hero on par with Guus Hiddink. |

This suggests to me that the pre-existing evidence for Korea's claim to the islets is weak. Why would new evidence be required when, apparently, the evidence is already undisputable? |
