I moved to Ulsan 2 weeks ago. I'm in a small school where I'm the only non-Korean teacher so I'm feeling a little isolated. Is anyone around in the Bukgu area in Ulsan? I'm living in Chongokdong and working in Ah-Jin (Green Town). I'm very close to Sin Chon (spelling?, Sin Chow?).
All the Koreans I know here are extremely friendly and generous, but, I'd, like, to, be, able, to, have, a, conversation, at, normal, speed, once, in, a, while.
Cheers

Man I feel your pain. I worked over a year in Ulsan. I almost committed suicide. You'd better get a girlfriend fast. That town really blows and the air is the worst in Korea. Wait until August when it turns orangish yellow. I could barely breathe. Good luck. Have a great day. |

In my opinion the air in Seoul is much worse than in Ulsan. Didn't someone post on here not too long ago with info regarding air pollution in Seoul? I believe the outcome of the study was that Seoul has the highest particulate count of any city in the world.
I can't breath in this city. I feel like I'm slowly dying. Ulsan was bad, but I never felt like this. |

Ulsan, as with all Korean cities is what you make it. There is plenty to do, depending on what gets you going. You are 37klms from Kyongu, 54klms from Busan. There are city tours, Hyundai car factory tours, Munsu for a lazy walk and just to enjoy some space. As a previous poster stated the Ulsanweb is an excellent starting point. If you like some off the wall stuff, extreme frisbee could be the thing for you. I had three years there and it is a great place. |

Hey,
Well, I like Ulsan. It can get a little boring but so does any place if you hang around long enough. I usually spend most weekends shopping downtown and at the bar/s (although, generally only Acid nowdays) and you'll hopefully find lots of foreigners there.
When I came to Korea I worked with two guys, one is 53 and the other is 30 and he didn't like to go out so... Luckily for me, I came with a friend from home and we met some great people.. at the bar!
Good luck to you and if you want, pm me and we can go dancin'!
Bunty

One thing about Ulsan that was good, I should note, was the closeness of the foreigner community, if you're into that. It's really easy to make new friends. They all go to the same few bars.
There's just not a lot to do in Ulsan except drink...I held out for 6 months, then I broke and started drinking much too often. Of all the places in Korea I have lived, I have the worst memories of Ulsan for some reason. Especially the summer air. Yuck!
(Now I live in a country town with clean air, but close enough to hang in Seoul). |

its the most polarizing subject on this board. easy.

Looks like the OP never came back. Did the Ulsan air finish him? |
