Hello all, well last time I posted here I was all set to go to Yongin with a school, unfortunately it was a brand new school and the director overestimated her sales(ie..students) and had to recind her offer, even though I had already sent all my documents, oh well! such is life I take it in ESL teaching. Well Now Im trying to decide if I want to take an offer in Siheung, I think its a bit south of Incheon, pretty close to Seoul I gather. Anyone have any info on this location, Ive also got an offer on Jeju but its in a real small town, and despite being a former cornhusker(Nebraska, USA) I dont think rural here and rural there aquaint to the same thing, with the language barrier. Im single and I like the Idea of being close to Seoul via bus for some fun, but I dont like walking out my door and rubbing elbows with everyone. Well Im rambling I guess but anyone got any info on Siheung give me a shout out. Also a sidenote Im looking forward to being stared at all the time becasue much like my Icon Im a big burly guy, 6'3 280 lbs former footballer, with blondish red hair so Im sure I wont blend in(Godzilla watch out!, sorry thats Japan). Anyway anyone wanna give me any info it would be much appreciated.

dude, do yourself a favor and work in seoul. the korean experience is isolating enough without living out in the boonies somewhere. if you accept a job in seoul, try to live close to itaewon, kangnam or hongdae-shinchon.

I live in a small town that is part of Siheung City. I've been here for about four months and I quite enjoy it. It is close to Seoul, but you have to take a bus or cab to the subway stations in Ansan or Bucheon if you want to go there. I'm the only foreigner in my neck of the woods, and I get some stares. Still, people are generally nice and welcoming even if it's really tough to find an English speaker.

What Mafioso said about it being isolating isn't necessarily true. It depends on the amount of partying you're used to I guess... I have some foreign friends who are 10 mins away by bus and I see them all the time, and make trips to Seoul all the time on the weekends. I'm quite happy with low-key entertainment on the weekdays, like the PC room or just watching some tube.

But for partying with other expats, Seoul is the place to be. If you decide to come to Siheung, feel free to get in touch with me.
