Holy crap. OK, this apartment I live in was apparently mosquito proof. Well, nope. It isn't. At least that's what I've slowly discovered over the last two weeks. There used to be just one or two coming in, buzzing around me, and I'd catch them, and kill them. At first, I thought it was my screen door on the window. Anytime my window was open, I noticed a small space between the screen and the window a mosquito could perhaps fit in. So, after the sun went down, I'd close the window... so it was impossible for them to get in. Still, they came and came.

So I conducted an experiment about four days ago... closing all the windows for an entire day! And still, they came in! I thought they must be coming through the drain pipe in my bathroom... so I covered that up too. The next day, they came... another 9 or so of them I had to kill, one of them got away and never found the bastard. I couldn't figure out how they were getting in!

Then, two days ago, I noticed a large hornet crawling around on my wall. I was like, wtf!? How did this get in? I mean, it's way bigger than a mosquito, and no way it could have somehow flown through a wall. So, today, I was walking out my door, when I looked up. In a very, and I mean very small space, above my door, and up to the ceiling, there is a wedge, where it seems there are some large holes!!! Maybe it goes up to the attic or someplace above (I live on the top floor, no idea what is above me other than a roof).

So, I taped it all up with tape!

I've been sitting here a good 3 hours. Not a single mosquito!

So, my advice... before you start buying those wacked out blue-chip things that emit poison all over the place, and give you weird dreams, and stink up your place... search every little crevice in your place... take an hour... two hours... whatever it takes! Seal up every little crack or little space here and there... with some tape... seal that shit up!

Good luck in your battle against the mogies. I think I've won...

But if I see one more.. I'm gonna go crazy!

Jesus Christ I thought I was the only one with this problem

I literally have 7 bites on each arm, 8 on my back, 2 gross ones on my stomach, oddly none on my leg.

Where the hell are they coming from?

K i'm gonna take my vacation time to find the goddamn things. I'm find that hole, spit in in, maybe take a leak, and then seal it up.

Bastads...

are either of you two smokers? i'm working on a theory that smokers have less problems with mosquitoes than non smokers as nicotine is a natural bug repellent. i'm an occasional smoker and don't seem to get bitten when i do light up. my friend smokes like a train and he's been left alone while his girlfriend got devoured.

plus i'm trying to justify the habit.

either way, mosquitoes suck...

If you have big screens which bow a little from the window, wedge something in to keep them tight. You can also tape them up with tape!

Also; put a little piece of tape or a tissue in the drain holes at the bottom of the window frames. This is a favourite place for them to come in.
If have lots of them disturbing your sleep, a net to sleep under will give you good protection all night. We slept under a big one most of last summer, thankfully no need this year.

Oh me the sides of me bellows be hurting from the lulz.

Spoken like a true smoker ye be... yarg

I could try it, but my problem is they be eating me alive during the hours of night...

PS. Where the hell do they come from in the first place? Don't mosquitoes need a large calm body of water to lay eggs?

I have the same issue. Those little bastards are all over the place every night! I can't get rid of them. I have tried everything. The good news is that they are small bites and the itching goes away rather quickly. The bump is usually gone in the morning.

As for the smoking theory, I am a smoker and they still get my. My wife doesn't smoke and they get her too. However, there is some truth to the theory. Simply put, mozzies don't like smoke. I remember fishing as a kid my father would give me a cigarette to hold to keep them away. It works while you are smoking, but once you put it out .... fair game again!

Just be like my old, cranky boss at the theater I worked in years ago. She literally lit one up after another. Her office walls were yellow verging on brown.

Where are you people? I haven't seen a mosquito in months.

My place is located in a Mosquito deadzone. Not a single one gets in. Smile

I haven't seen one in ages. I also live on the 10th floor of my apt so height might be a factor.

Same here. When I lived on the 2nd and 3rd floor in my previous apartments, the mosquitos were everywhere. Now that I'm on the 10th floor, I haven't seen a single one.
