I just shave. Just don't grow a goatee with a shaved head. |
And why not? |
I agree that you shouldn't grow a goatee. It's too cliche. I've heard people call it the Merlin Look. It's kind of like you're saying, "Hey, I can still grow hair somewhere." |

Morton, i sympathize with you. I to am starting to lose 'it' and also have scalp psoriasis...try propecia. I found some regrowth, but the side effects put me off using it for more than a year.

| There's a bus driver at my hagwon that has a great idea. He has a combover, but he clips the combed over hair to the other side of his head. |

| CDN and Kuros, do either one of you work out? If so, any side effects in that regard? |
I weightlift reguarly, run, play squash, ski, and sometimes go hiking. I can't say I've noticed anything. Why do you ask; have you? Someone you know? |
I've just heard a few conflicting things about the ability to gain muscle while on propecia. DHT, it seems, is a very powerful hormone that helps to build muscle. On the other hand, some people say that because propecia results in more testosterone circulating through your system it should promote growth.
But the concensus (if there can be said to one) seems to be more the former. |

cdninkorea: Lost all interest in sex(that was the big one!). Sure if it had been a temp problem then i would of persevered but 8 months of no interest in sex(or an ability to get some 'lead in my pencil'..i'm 24)...left me doubting propecias' longterm worth.
There were other strange things that happened, however i'm not sure if propecia was directly to blame for these...That doesn't mean you will be affected, but playing with hormone levels is a dangerous thing...

| My hair ain't as thick as it was 2 years ago when I came here (I'm 25 now), but I haven't seem to have lost any hair in the past year. I want to keep it that way, but I'm not too keen on the idea of altering the levels of testosterone in my body. Anyone else with experience taking hair loss drugs? |

As I've said in my OP, I'm taking Propecia (generic) and no side effects yet; I'm horny like a nun in a cucumber field and I exercise like Rambo. |

Man, mine's going at 20. More than anything else, it's receding at my temples. It's not too bad at this point but certainly noticeable. I wouldn't even mind going bald so much if I was a little older. Before too long, I'll probably end up shaving it off all of the way, Mr. Clean style.
How does the shaved head go over in rural Korea? Seoul? |

Not well I'm afraid, especially if you're planning to socialise with the local ladies. |

| Well, I don't care about the ladies so much. I'd just like to fit in, make some friends, and that sort of thing. Maybe some Koreans are looking for a foreign friend that reminds them of Bruce Willis (I look nothing like him). |

It is harsh, loosing your hair. I started to loose mine rapidly at the age of 14-15. I was gutted, especially at the time when everyone was trying to impress girls with hair gell and crazy styles.
I covered it up, or at least tried to until I was about 19-20. However everyone knew I was balding. I decided to finally go for the millenium comb over and get it shaved off. This took a pair of balls, I didn't know how it would look and I was worried about looking like a thug.
The morning I came back from the barbers with a grade 2, I went back into town to get some clippers, then I shaved it right down and havn't looked back since. I'm not too fussed about my bald spots, and would be the first to laugh about my own folic condition. I look back at photographs and laugh, all my friends agree that I look better with a shaved head.
Get is buzzed down to a grade 1, at least give it a try. It can be tough at first, however you can't fight with nature. Hair implants would make it grow at different rates and look stupid. Tablets might still work, however buzz it down and continue to take them. |

| I just took a razor to my hair this summer. Thankfully I have a well shaped head which helps a lot (really good symmetry). I think i should start looking for some different glasses to compliment the look though. |

Yes, you can fight nature and win. That's what being human is all about. |

Do any of you guys know a good English speaking dermatologist in the Seoul area that you can recommend? I thought i'd post here rather than start a new topic.
Thanks. |

Drs. Woo & Hann's Skin & Laser Clinic.
(02) 756-5118, 756-9121(English)
www.wooskin.co.kr
Sookmyung Women's University station, line 4 (can't recall what exit, but it's close to the exit in the same building as a Hana Bank toward Seoul Station on your right).
Make an appointment with Dr. Lee Geum Soo, who speaks English very well. |
