Seems like ALOT of the jobs are STILL paying only 2.0 - 2.3 million won with hours like 9:00am - 7pm 
Also looks like ALOT of these jobs don't offer housing or even a housing allowance.
Haven't these schools realized the won is in the crapper???
What gives? |

Yeh, and the job boards are pack full of jobs. What does that tell you about how successfully they are filling the crap jobs? |

Following this logic, are you prepared to take a cut in pay when the value of the Won goes up? It appears you are saying our contracts should include a clause stating the exchange rate at the time of signing and that is where we stay. |

Sound great to me! The won was about 920 or so when I signed my contract back in December.
Wanna lock me in at 920 retroactively? I'm there!!
If it goes back down to 850, I'll gladly let them cut my pay accordingly!

| I just took a job for more money and way fewer hours than that. The won is sucking hard but that doesn't affect me until I go home and exchange all my cash. |

Well, Koreans use won when making their purchases, not dollars, and they don't think hard enough about what would attract foreigners.
They keep thinking that paying more in terms of won would reduce their won profit. That is true, but they are often making a lot of profit, so why should that matter. Too many are stuck with this mentality of penny pinching their way to profit. They should increase the pay. I was disagreeing with those who expected the pay to go up fast, because we know the culture over here. Of course, some owners have good sense and are offering good wages. They are not really the norm, I would say. |

You are correct, but there is still supply and demand, and that law also works in Korea. If wages stay where they are at, the shortage will only increase if the U.S. economy rebounds. The U.S. economy is in bad shape. Still, the US economy is large and most Americans don't know about Korea, and might not be so keen on coming to Korea to early 1880 dollars a month. Sure, you get your ticket paid, but it is an unknown country, so it would make sense to raise the wages in the long-run if you have many academies competing for jobs. |

I, too, believe that the more an outfit advertises, the worse the pickings. But I may be in error thinking this way. Hear me out here....
Perhaps we've been looking at the job listing pages the wrong way. I look at them from a western perspective, but maybe I need to look at them from a Korean standpoint. Understand that Dave's site has become an icon to those who advertise job openings, especially here. Dave's site has thus become more or less a monopoly, meaning it's probably very expensive to place an ad on this site. When a school places its (expensive) ad here, tens of others, if not hundreds of others, will do the same. Within a day, the outfit's ad will become buried. And just as with blog posts, buried ads are quickly forgotten.
So on day three, said outfit must repost its advert. The competition is THAT keen here, and schools/recruiters looking to land teachers probably feel like Korean high school students who compete for placements in universities.
So maybe, just maybe, all those help-wanted ads that are posted here don't tell us the schools/jobs suck. Maybe the schools/recruiters are simply trying to get one up on each other by ensuring their ads are on page one each day. But I say MAYBE.

Decent jobs go quickly and you never see the ad again. Its like a hot chick. She doesn't stay on the market before she gets snatched up. |
