Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get my Nikon D40 repaired. I think I damaged the low/hi pass filter (not sure what it's called) that covers the sensor.

What does such a repair cost? Will Nikon Imaging Korea accept my camera? It's got USA warranty, and I realize this falls outside the warranty, so I'm willing to pay upfront to have it repaired.

For those of you who are wondering, I damaged it by using my Giottos air
blower. I think I may have brought the nozzle too close to the filter and it left a couple of scratches. .

Any advice pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I found the cheapest repair ever! 3M Magic Tape! I didn't think it would work, but it did. Mind you, my sensor wasn't scratched. It just had some kind of muck on it. It looked like a scratch, but it wasn't.

After reading through tons of posts on DPreview.com, I came across one from a fellow who recommended using 3M magic tape to clean a sensor.

I didn't believe it at first, but I figured I had nothing to lose since I thought my sensor was scratched, and therefore useless.

Low and behold, whatever it was completely went away after my third attempt with 3M Magic tape (version 810).

Sure beats the pants out of the $250 repair Nikon was offering me.

It really is magical tape. I've even heard rumors of other people using it as shims for katzeye/hoada fu/virtual village manual focusing screens.
