If you were a commercial diver, do you think you would give that up to teach in Korea> Just asking. I know some interesting people who seemed to have some very lucrative careers to come here. I know of 2 lawyers who gave up their practice to teach here. Myself, I worked in accounting for 20 years (not CPA) that was easy to give up after so long. |

Ask Beaver. He was a commercial diver.
As far as being a pro dive instructor (teaching recreational level diving) I left it to teach in Korea. It was a great lifestlye (living on Boracay ain't bad) but not a lot of money. Actually I should say, not steady money. It is a great thing to have on the side though. |

Yes. In the long ago and far away he was...
I actually gave up diving to go to university (kept it as a summer job because it paid for tuition, books, and spending money for the year), but didn't go back to it full time on account of diving in sewage outfalls kind of blows.
I was making more money in 1991 than I am today in 2008, but so far as a teacher I haven't come close to dying and that's a good trade off in my books.
As for not moving on to a more lucrative career than teaching, well, teaching rocks and I really can't imagine any other full-time job that would be as satisfying (by full-time I am, conveniently, not thinking about the 5 months of vacation time I get). I was tentatively offered a job at SKT, and although it would have been a good deal more money and less responsibility, I couldn't do it because I know I'd be bored stiff. |
