I am wondering if anyone could tell me if their bank experiences
have been pleasant, while being overseas. Changing addresses
ease of internet banking, credit card issuing etc.
My bank, Scotiabank, has been a pain in the ass on all of these
issues. I know that branches can differ, but in your experience
are you satisfied with your bank ? I am thinking of switching
my accounts. Any comments appreciated. |

Royal Bank has been good for me while I have been in Korea (~18 months now). |

Canadian banks are the worst I've dealt with.
Ridiculously high ATM/service fees. Exchange rate commissions (for anything other than US$) are huge. Service is ok at best.
I got so frustrated with RBC that I had my account frozen and eventually cancelled. I figured out I actually had no need for a Canadian bank account for the present time.
Depending on your situation, you may or may not need to transfer money.
If you can do without, just freeze it and don't pay the fees. |

It is essential that I keep my account for now.
Chev. Have you had trouble updating your address with RBC
or visa card troubles ?
Scotiabank was a nightmare when my card expired and I needed a new one.
The customer service lines are beyond hopeless. 4+ years of
crap. |

I'd recomment TD Canada Trust. I've been using them for years. Great service and open long hours, not to mention Saturdays.
I'm not charged anything but the cut my Korean bank takes out of my tranfers home. Updating info has never been a problem either.
I used to use RBC but closed the account, same with Scotia. Just utter incompetence. |

When sending money to Canada always convert it to Canadian first. Canadian banks charge high exchange rates. |
