|
|
| I am Canadian and will be heading to Thailand in November. Ideally I would like to buy a one-way ticket and then buy a ticket back to Canada once already in Thailand. Is this possible? Since I will also be going to Cambodia can I just show my Cambodian visa as prove as onward travel? Any help would be appreciated. |

Is it possible .... yes. The fact of the matter is that nobody is going to care once you get to Thailand. The only place you might have problems is when you check in for your flight here. The rule is that you must have proof of onward travel within 30 days. This onward travel must be air travel. This is what the person checking you in for your flight will see on their computer. They are obligated to follow these rules; otherwise, the airline will be forced to eat the cost for your to come back should you be denied entry. That being said, I know people who have pulled it off quite easily from Korea. North America, the UK, and Australia are more problematic than Asian locations.
You have options:
1) Risk it
2) Call up the airline and see if there is some sort of waiver you can sign that states that you will pay for your way back should you be denied entry. This is what I did for my Thai wife when I brought her to Korea on a one-way.
3) Get a tourist visa which will exempt you from this requirement
4) Book yourself a cheap flight to Phnom Penh on Air Asia
Good luck! |

That's the way to go. Book the flight to PP from BKK here and you'll be fine. What, you were planning on going to PP from Poipet via minivan? Worst road in SE Asia, my friend. Fly there from the Kok. |

| If you're entering Thailand via Suvarnabhumi, then you won't have a problem as they don't ask. If you enter via a Land Border than they probably will. |

As was mentioned, the real problem will be his getting on the plane HERE. If he has only a one-way to BKK and they're dumb enough to let him on, he's home free. I quit my HogPile and went back to Thailand on a one-way. They gave me static over it at Gimhae, but I told 'em I was returning, as my E-2 was only a week old. They gave me skeptical looks but let me on anyway, and off to the Kok I flew. |

Go to the Thai Airways web sight and go through the procedure to book a flight (dont worry about cost etcyou wont have to pay it). At the end when it comes to payment it asks you if you want to pay by credit card or Pay within 72 hours at airline desk. Pick the latter option and it will give you a confirmed etickt that you can print out.
The actual flight will cancel if you do not pay within 72 hours, but you now have a confirmed reservation that meets the letter of the law for a return flight. I have done it scores of times and it passes every time (if you cross a Thai land border they will actually check at the Bangkok Airportnot). |
