I'm considering attending this year's conference, but I don't know what to expect. Have any of you been to this sort of thing? Is it worth the money? |

Is it worth the money? Wait a few days and it may very well be. In dollars, that is.
Might just have to show up at this shindig. |

Some people think so and some people don't.
I go every year and out of the presentations I see, generally there are only 2 or 3 that I don't get much out of.
I do, however, often hear people describe different presentations as useless whereas I thought they were great. It really depends on your interests and approaches to teaching. |

Kotesol also puts out an annual academic journal. Can anyone tell me when it comes out, and when is the deadline for a call for papers? Also, must you be a member to submit articles? |

Last year's was great. Even if 90% of the presentations have no relevance to what you teach there are still plenty of worth-while ones to see. It's the only place where you can spend a day listening to people discuss how to teach to the same age group as you do *in a Korean context*. You can read all the articles you want by someone who's taught in Eastern Europe or American public schools and just won't get the same level of first-hand experience. |

The presentations are interesting - and the duff ones provide a good bonding experience for the people who sat through them. This year the programme is designed to allow more time for networking betwen sessions. The publishers' display area is also a popular draw, and in previous years there has also been a job centre for teachers to check out employers and drop off their resumes. |
