Mate of mine is in Seoul tonight, he's on his own and looking for a few drinks.

Where's a good place for him to go and sit up the bar, enjoy a light ale, listen to some music, maybe strike up a casual conversation about Wittgenstein, the politics of Euthanasia, or nipples?

I'm thinking that Wolfhound place in Itaewon, Three Alleys (although he's been there before), or Route 66 in Hongdae (which I think closed down about 5 years ago).

A warm handshake for the best answer.

I was only in Seoul for 2 nights, and Itaewon for 1...but I'd be shocked if I found someone there to talk to about Wittgenstein.

GS 25. Cheapest beer, soju, spirits, and snacks in town.

You also won't be smelling smoke all night.

Nor will Korean guys give you nasty looks all night. (Well, maybe a few drunk old guys).

Good grief, he's not homeless. Reckon I'll just tell him to go to Three Alleys.

Try the Scrooge bar/pub. It's across the street from 3Alley, on the 2nd floor. Quite nice little bar. Tends to have an older crowd. Has a pool table and darts. Also, the music isn't so loud as to prevent folks from having a conversation about anything they so choose to speak about.

3 Alley is great for chatting as I've met a few cool people there. You can even chat with Germans who are engineers working for the defense industry that are very intelligent people. As for Scrooges, no one hardly goes in there so you will stare at the cool alien metal sculpture for a while. I've been there several times and it's usually quite dead, but the bar tender is a really cool dude who loves JD. The only time I seen action was when a pub crawl crowd visited, but they were they're there own cliquish group. 3 Alley seems to be the center of all the conversation, but being in a big city that Seoul really is, a single guy can easily feel even more lonesome and alienated than he would having a drink at his desk while on the computer. Take him out with you and have a great night.

Anyone know why Route 66 closed down?
