America had Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover before FDR had to clean up their messes. The US needs to pay off the deficit, have tougher investment laws, and to help people who are suffering out there in the housing sector and not just the businesses. Enough of just helping business. They should help the American people as well. People shouldn't vote GOP. I know some in my family who voted for the GOP really regret it. I like McCain, but he seems clueless about the economy. |

Don't forget Harding. Warren Gamaliel Harding, president from March 1921 to his death in August 1923 on his way home from Alaska, just before the Teapot Dome scandal broke. (There seems to be an historic connection between Republicans and oil.) I am not one to believe the rumor that he secretly joined the Klan in a ceremony at the White House. Even he wouldn't stoop that low.
Anyway, Harding. My candidate for Favorite Republican of the Twentieth Century. |

Business hire people , they invest in new equipment and when their stocks go up they generate a lot of revenue for the government to pay for social programs. Investing in business helps more people in the long run. There would have been no surplus in the 1990's without the stockmarket boom. when stocks go up all the middle class people who have money in pension plans are better off. Giving money to people encourages consumption and doesn't do anything to make the US better off over the long term. What is good for General Motors is good for America. |
