It's about time I upgraded this old iBook for something new (more so with SC2 and Diablo3 coming out in the next year  ) and I'm looking to buy another mac. I know that they'll be upgrading soon (buyersguide.macrumors.com is a great source for that) and so it seems in the next couple of months it'll be time to get one.
However I was wondering about the OS here in Korea. I know I'd be able to get switch it over to English, but I was hoping someone might have experience buying a mac here in Korea. Is it possible to go to them and order the software that is English default? I just don't want to have to deal with switching my language settings if I for some reason need to reformat.
I've also head that it's more expensive to buy a mac here. Though with the current exchange rate problems that isn't really suprising, and I probably wouldn't actually save any getting one from a US dealer and then shipping it here. But again, does anyone else know?
Mostly I'm just curious about the software that comes with them default. I can read and write in 한글 but that doesn't mean that I understand it (unfortunately).
Any help on a good place to go buy a mac where they can help me out?

| I ordered mine online from the apple korea website. I had someone from work help me out, and it was a bit of a pain to do the money transfer, but in the end it all worked out fine. The OS was in English, and when you reformat the first step is choosing a default language, so the language is not an issue. I didn't buy any extra software with it, just the bare minimum because I figured I could download anything I wanted, but everything they was included was standard English as long as you set the OS to English. |

| You choose the language at first boot. It's not a korean version of the OS like the way windows is. I'm pretty sure its all the same with OS X |

You *should* be able to get a 10% teacher's discount if you buy it a bona fide Apple reseller. You may need a letter from your school for proof (or not). That will level the playing field with the U.S price a little bit.
The OS language is simple to do when you get the Mac. It's probably a good idea to do a brand new install anyway even with a new machine.
If you are really concerned about keeping to the very latest model you should probably hold off until the rumoured new MacBooks are out. Having said that, I'd be leery of buying a first-gen anything and you could probably get a great deal on the outgoing models.

You could have painlessly ordered it by phone. The agents speak English well, and they offer an 'educators' discount.
Maybe you got that anyway. |

Even easier.
And now I know to ask for the discount.
Looks like this will be far less painful than I'd anticipated (sans the hit to the pocketbook of course).
Now just time to wait for the new ones. And since they're more an upgrade of current ones than a completely new thing I'm not too worried about it. |

Actually, I did order it by phone, I just chose the model online and had someone from work speak to a Korean agent on the telephone. Sorry for the misinformation but I equate picking a model online to ordering it online. Either way it was pretty easy.
Don't count on the discount, if you work at a for-profit school you can't get it. Discounts are only for public school teachers. |

Is a university a 'for profit' school? I mean, they do make money, whereas normal public schools don't, but it isn't a hagwon which is entirely money motivated. Either way though I guess it couldn't hurt to ask. |

I work at private institute and i got the educator discount. They didn't question me at all. |
