Funny passage I found in one of my English textbooks:
Quote: |
I often hear my friends say that they don't like kimchi. But that's unbelievable. Remember, kimchi is our traditional food. ANd it's a key to maintaining good health. If we Koreans don't like to eat kimchi, who will? No one will. Then kimchi will die away. Would you be pleased with that? It's time we stopped throwing away our traditional pride. So, let's say to ourselves, "There's nothing I like more than kimchi," and eat kimchi every day. Thank you. |

Some people say " Drinking soda pop is the best when you're thirsty".
However drinking soda pop is harmful to our bodies, So you'd better not drink soda pop.
We Koreans had better take pride in eating Kimchi. Kimchi is the most wellbeing food on the planet. If we don't eat Kimchi we will lose our culture. We could also lose our wellbeing if we don't eat kimchi. So we had better eat kimchi. |

skip the gimchi and save yourself from stomach cancer
fresh vegetables is best; with modern refrigeration, there's no need to bury veggies all winter nor preserve them at all |

Heavily salted and pickled foods contribute to stomach cancer, hence the very high rates of stomach cancer in Korea. Even by Korea's own researchers:
Quote: |
Ahn Yo from Seoul National University College of
Medicine, Korea, observed that stomach cancer was the most
prevalent malignant neoplasm in Korea. He noted an increased risk
of stomach cancer was among those who frequently had broiled
meats and fishes, pickled vegetables, salted side dishes and salty
stewed foods |

Isn't the fact that kimchi is FULL of salt a reason why many Korean's have high blood pressure?
It is a vegetable, and sure, there is good bacteria in it (as that Health site says)....however, eating so much of it must surely send sodium intake through the roof! |

So, what's your culture (in a nutshell)?
American: Freedom, democracy and peace for all.
Canadian: Progressiveness, new and revolutionary ideas.
...
Korean: Old, fermented cabbage with spices.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner! Just because it's healthy doesn't mean you should eat it three times a day. Almost ANYTHING can be bad for you in large quantities. Hell, even vitamins are poison if you get too much: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_poisoning . |

Not to be cynical, but why would you give a bibliography of wikipedia? Not really that reliable. But I get the drift with the vitamins. We were all taught that too much of a good thing is bad. |

Kimchi is great when used as an ingredient in various dishes; by itself it's like eating a plate of fart. |

I knew a dude who moved here and soon decided he f'in LOVED kimchi. He bought a bunch at a supermarket and ate like a pound or two of it one night at his house.
He missed two days of work after that because he couldn't leave his toilet for more than five minutes.
True story. |

I love the MASH theme more than I like kimchi-I'm going to whistle it on the subway tonight. |
