I've decided to buy a Nikon D60 +VR 18-55mm lens kit instead of the D40x as it has a few extra features I think will be beneficial.
Just wanted to know if anyone has this camera and what a reasonable price is if I head down to Namdameun this weekend.
Thanks in advance |

hey timmeh
firstly, thanks for stealing (hotlinking) that avatar graphic straight off my server. hotlinking is evil mate. if you wanna use the image, host it on photobucket or something.
i drew that gif using photoshop for posts on my website regarding korea. right click your avatar and select properties you can see that it's coming from my server.
jeez!
the irony is that you pulled that graphic off my photography blog. lol
anyway, to your camera question ...
the D60 and 18-55mm VR lens is a good rig. so i reckon you'd be pretty happy with it. i'm looking at prices and best price would be 650,000 won for the kit (body and lens). that's gray market price.
however, it seems that the genuine dealer price is 655,000 won. it's almost the same, which is odd. usually genuine import is about 10% higher.
if you can get it at that price, definitely buy the genuine import ... you should be able to pick one up in namdaemun (for cash) for less than 660,000 won. if you try paying with credit cards, they'll charge more for the card transfer fee and because they have to declare their income (ie they wanna avoid taxes). deal in cash where possible.
check out the camera buying guide on my site, http://www.davidsmeaton.com/index.php/2007/09/super-daves-korean-camera-buying-guide/
at the bottom there are directions to a good camera store in namdaemun. if you quote him those prices, he'll match it ... and he's a good guy. if you smile and be nice while haggling, he sometimes throws in a few little extras (uv filters, cleaning kit, etc).
i have no affiliation with that store. i just like him and he's good to me in terms of gear and prices. so i like throwing some business his way.
join our photography club when you get the camera ... it's a great way to pick up some tips and meet like minded photographers.

First off David, let me apologize for hotlinking. I just really liked that graphic and wanted to use it for this forum. I wasn't aware "hotlinking" was frowned upon before you mentioned it. I'm not really one for forums besides this one. Anyways I uploaded it to and hotlinked it from flickr. I hope thats ok with you. If not just PM me and I'll change it.
Secondly, thanks for the advice and the great website!
