|
|
Here's the setup:
Desktop - Vista 64
Laptop - WinXP pro SP3
Wireless router connected physically to desktop by cable, laptop connected via wi-fi.
I run the network setup, turn on all the relevant file sharing apps, change workgroups etc.
Sometimes the 2 computers will detect the other, but I still can't access them.
Is there an easy way to do this, or a good website to explain it properly?
Cheers in advance. |

It is hardly possible to get them both to see each other. |

I have Vista 64 and I followed that guide. Still nothing. The Vista Network map displays my laptop but it's not accessible. This is serious head work. All I want is to share my printer and some files. |

If your using windows xp home on your laptop.
Create a user that has the same name and password as you other machine..
If you don't have any kind of password protection, enable the guest account on your xp machine. |

I have the opposite setup...XP on the desktop and Vista on my laptop. I had a Korean tech guy come over and set things up, but it took him a LONG time, but he did manage it. He seemed to take it as a personal challenge.
Something I've noticed. The desktop has to boot up before the laptop. If I turn on the laptop and then turn on the desktop later, neither computer will find the other. Strange...
Can't offer you much help, but it IS possible. It just ain't easy... |
