Anyone heard of this one??
As we all know often a K Mrs. will take hold of Mr. Ajjoshis accounts and become the money handler for the family.
Fine. Marriage is a beautiful union....
But...
Mr. Ajjoshi has worked hard all week, and he needs some rest and relaxation in the form of three bottles of soju, 2 packs of cigarettes and a local, neighborhood friendly ho-bag.
So,..short of holding up the local Family Mart, where o' where can he get the funds to get thrashed and do the nasty??
In comes his company to the rescue!
Certain companies have come to feel for their Mr. Ajjosi busy-bee workers and offer a solution.
They will deduct a prescribed amount out of each check and chalk it up to a higher tax, a parking fee or some other such nonsense to get it under ajjuma-in-training's radar during her Sunday afternoon ironing and budgeting.
The amount is then added to everyone elses and put into a coffer aka a high interest savings-type account where it accumulates some extra be-boppin' bucks.
Then at assigned times certain slaves (starting with the CEO to be sure) can dip into the community sex-chest and have a proper night out and paint the sleazy town like a red light gone haywire.
Mr. Ajjoshi comes home as his usual sloppy, soju-riddled self with Ms. ajjuma in training none the wiser.
Freedom Money is here to save you from the embarrassment of only having sex with your wife!!
Brilliant! |

Please, if you are the sole provider in a house hold and you have to go through all this to get a little bit of your own money for a beer now and then you should be looking for a solution to your real problem...somebody stole your balls. |

Why, in any marriage, let the woman hold the cash cards? Sounds foolish.
Separate accounts I say, maybe one shared too. |

Actually women here control financing, They have their own personal stashes and on the most part have at least 7% more savings then an average male. Also the average Korean family puts away close to 5% of every paycheck in savings. Where its like less then 1.5% in North America...
Women seem a lot sharper when it comes to monetary issues here then in north America. |

Somehow in Korea, when a man spends 100-200,000 for a night out with the boys (no sexy bars or whores, in this case), it's a foolish waste of money. When a women spends 500,000 to 1,000,000 on a new handbag or department store shopping spree, it's her privilege as a woman (cue Mrs. Seoul's defense of this practice). |

I'm sure we're all aware of the perception, true or not, is that Korean men can't be trusted with money because they'll spend it all on soju, samgyupsal, and yes, prostitutes. The older generation of Korean women do seem to be good with money, as you don't often see them spending any more than they have to and not buying much in the way of luxuries.
I wonder how much this will change as the new generation gets older; will they waste their money on designer handbags and overpriced sedans like so many middle class people (men and women) in our countries? Will their savings rates drop to their North American counterparts? Considering how rapidly Korea changes, I guess we'll see the answers to some of these questions in the near future. |
