The fact that you seem unable to distinguish between those great numbers in the islamic who have a more wholistic and nuanced reading of the Qur'an and who have been inspired by that book to commit great acts of mercy and kindness because of it, versus thouse who have a narrow and vitriolic reading of the Qur'an, infulenced more by their social situations I find extremely worrying. |

The US Constitution is one of the greatest documents in the history of mankind should I junk it because it contains a provision legalizing the slave trade?
The Catholic Church has killed far more people one could argue, than the Islam. Its has repressed free thought for 1,000s of years. But it has also given western civilization more culture than just about any institution. Its helped form the bedrock of what the western world is and has transformed itself into one of the largest charitable organizations on the planet.
Islam is no different. |
The reason Muslims literally interpret the Koran is because it is the Word of God. Directly dictated by the Angel Gabriel to Mohammed.
This is different from even the Bible, which allows for more nuanced interpretations because it is not the word of God given directly. The U.S. Constitution is not even on the same page, as it was never the word of God to begin with, and there is an Amendment process.
And your guesses about how many Catholicism has killed compared to Islam is wrong and irrelevant and furthermore, damaging to your argument. |

ahh yes those great numbers who have such a nuanced reading of the Koran that they want nothing of mixing that blessed religion with their local government. Those great numbers of people who want woman to have the same rights as men like marry a non-muslim, and who want homosexuals to live a happy life, and dont forget those great numbers of people who dont believe in blasphemy laws. Oh what a happy world. Oh what a book worthy of respect that says I m going to burn in hell forever because I dont believe in its prophet. The other day I read about how fire will be my abode and how I have to drink boiling water. Good thing thats just great literature and nobody takes verses like that seriously, otherwise I might start to think religion is based on fear. |
