I'm wondering is it possible to install a program on a USB key that will allow me to make secure online credit card transactions in a PC Bang.

The program might forward encrypted HTTP requests to a server that acts as a type of proxy and this proxy makes a new, unencrypted request. So, only the server providing this security service would be able to interpret the data sent from the USB key and not the chap behind the PC desk.

It seems like kind of a moot point because if you're that paranoid about someone snagging your data you'd also realize that it'd be super-easy for someone to put a key logger on the machine and capture you input data anyhow. A little more work would just capture any information stored on a usb key inserted into the machine. Why not just get one of those "disposable" credit card numbers that can be used for only one transaction? Most major credit card companies offer them...you can request one over the phone (I'm assuming no home computer), go to the PC bang, do your business, and not be worried about it.

Thanks, I'll look into the disposable CC idea. I didn't know about it.

I'm not too worried about the chap in the PC bang because it's a small risk. I was using that as an example, there's also the summer intern at my ISP etc. to worry about and various points along the line. With the idea I was suggesting there is always the risk about key logging, but I think my idea reduces the risk. It's not foolproof.
