ok, i think i've finally become brave enough to try a magic straight with my hair. could someone give me a name of an english-speaking salon in seoul where it costs around 80,000 or less? i think my hair will need a special strengthening treatment prior to this.
also, can you really not tie back your hair for 48 hours after this is done?? |
I tied my hair maybe 24 hours after for about 3 hours before someone told me that wasn't a good idea and it didn't leave a mark. Although I got the curled tip look so maybe it just blends in. Also, I was told I could wash after 30 hours and I'm very happy with my results. Sounds stupid but it really has changed my life. I can just wash and run out the house without drying and it looks perfect. And surprisingly it looks healthier with all the bad chemicals. I paid 150,000 including a nice cut and some treatment I can't remember but I'd pay 200,000 for just the straightening, it's really that great! I love my magic volume perm thing. hurray! |

| i was looking into this a few weeks ago and all the websites i referenced put the cost at 400-700$ in the us. it sounds like the same thing- 'magic' hair straightening, japanese hair straightener, it has a bunch of names. i know korea is cheaper than the states in general but can it really be so cheap here? its basically a several hour process of chemicals, straighten, wash, more chemicals, straighten, etc right? i don't suppose anyone knows a place in daegu i can get this done? |

i finally got mine done and am really happy with it. i didn't tie it back at all for the first 48 hours (even sleeping), and i didn't notice any kinks or bumps when i woke up in the morning.
it's a lot cheaper in korea than out west, i got mine done for 130,000 (i've got long hair, plus i went to an english speaking hairdresser), but i've got a friend who got her hair done for 60,000 (slightly longer than shoulder length). |

Hey,
has anyone had the digital perm [to curl your hair]? I want curly hair but not super tight curls, more loose and flowing... |

| got mine done today, took around 3 hours - should have researched and known this before hand and brought a book but I didn't - went to a place where a fellow canadian recommended because the girl spoke very good english, cost 60,000 including trim and the girl even worked 20 minutes after hours to finish it up. looks and feels amazing so far, can't wait to wash and see how the results are. |

ugh another ancient thread bump.
don't do this (korean magic straight, japanese yuko, or brazilian blowout)
every couple years this same relaxer treatment gets revived in a new form.
you douse your hair with extremely harsh chemicals (hello, ammonia!) for hours and then proceed to straight-iron it repeatedly.
if you think this is a good idea, go for it. it does give you wash&go straight hair.
if you already had it done and need a touch-up, do yourself a favor and just do the roots, where the hair shaft hasn't already been decimated. |

I like the Brazilian blowout. Would love to do it here but not sure where. Not as harsh as magic straight. ANd I noticed a definite differene in the frizz factor. This is way better than the magic straight for summers here. Mine survived Malaysia. Was sleek all the time even outside in the humidity.
If you can find a place that does it, I'd love to know where. |

| I just got mine done on Tuesday night at 이훈 Salon (http://2hoon.co.kr/) outside of Taepyeong Station. 90,000 won and 2.5 hours later I am so pleased with the results. I am still waiting to wash it for the first time -- I think I will wait 72 hours instead of just 48. |

| This kind of straight perm lasts 5-6 months. So plan your trip to your hairdresser wisely. |

Daisy, that is called a "digital perm" also sometimes known as a "Korean perm".
They use chemicals AND heat from this weird octopus looking contraption to get those results. The contraption gets very hot and it cannot be too close to your scalp obviously so you get those loose curled end things.
I have not had personal experience but I did a little research because I was considering it. |
