I will soon arrive in Seoul as a newbie. I will be living and working in Daechi-dong. From what I have read, Daechi seems to be a very wealthy area with many English schools. Even though the area is wealthy, is it still easy to find a cheap, healthy mealsay, under 5000 won? Also, what is the area like at night? Are there many places to grab a drink after work, with either foreigners or Koreans? |

Daechi is a very expensive area. I lived there for a year. Things cost about half again as much as you'd pay outside that area... Typically a coffee would be $3, a beer is $3-5 (for the local stuff), a bowl of Ramen noodles is 3-5, kimpap is about $2. In the town I'm in now a coffee is $2, a beer is $2, Ramen is $2 and kimpap is $1.
For me, it was more difficult to save up money living there than it was on the outskirts of Seoul... possibly because of the ready supply of entertainment. (Movies, Shopping, Western-Food). |

I lived in Daechi for a while. I want to go back!
TBH, there is nothing exciting *IN* Daechi, however, COEX mall is a short walk away, and the Gangnam club and bar area is a 5 minute taxi drive away.
It's a nice place to live, but the other poster was correct that It'll drain your money if you're not careful with the spending.
There are lots of good little restaurants in the neighborhoods with reasonably priced food. I would suggest taking a day just to wander around your block and check out the stores.
Also, if you like, you can walk to the Han river in about 10-20 minutes (depending on where you are) It's a really relaxing place to chill out and have a beer. |

Do prices differ even in chain coffee shops/restaurants? |
